| interesting post considering I go to school up here in Gainesville and I'm always wishing for a better scene. But it doesn't look like any names are playing (even minor ones) and if Gainesville is an example, it'll probably devolve into ty dudbstep midway through th night |

Yeah Gainesville Use to have a great scene, much can be said about Jacksonville Orlando and Tampa, But the times have changed. The City counsel got really strict on the E.D.M. scene in G-ville around the Late 90's early 2000 passing Ordinances and Laws that made it hard for the scene to maintain. Trust me i went to many party's at Simon's in the early 90's that lasted 2 full days no-stop
Like i said If you into Electronic music then you should know about Simon's it is the first place in the U.S. that many of the Big names every played Including Sasha,Digweed Paul Van Dyk and so many more this is not and exaggeration it's a Flat Fact! Like i said Joe-C one of the Former Residents is playing Trust me i know That Gainesville is no Miami or Denver but the scene is still there. This party has been going on for the last 5 years and has been a blast every time this year has an excellent line up so far and they are adding more everyday. I hope you decide to come out im sure you will enjoy.
By the Way did you Catch any of The Parties at Gainesville Skate Park a Few Months back those were Awesome parties with great Dj's including Josh Wickham, Brian-H and Myself we had to keep those partis quiet but they lasted all night and had a huge Crowd you can find pictures and videos of those on my myspace page myspace.com/grantcarlislemusic |

I was there for the last good days of Simons myself. I think what the other dude is saying is that the parties that do go on, are ty cause these DJ's play we don't wanna hear unfortunately. If you're going to play edm, at least play the people want. Bring on the banging house, prog, breaks...parties like the big jocks play, with tunes from said labels. Too many bedroom DJ's with no talent and ear for good music. |

| Ahhhhh good ole Simons.... I thought I was so cool getting upstairs to that little vip section behind the dj booth. The main room was just a dark rectangle with like one or two lights and some boxes to stand on. Union Jack and Oakenfold was the best show I saw there I would say. Whatever happened to those Platipus folks anyway looks like they went under...... |

They indeed closed down for a few years..I heard they were opening again just recently. Not sure if that actually happened. It will never be anything like it was though :( |

There is some awsome talent on that line up. But just because they haven't added some huge overpayed headliner doesn't mean that it's not going to be a good party just from the line up so far i can say that there is going to be something for everyone plus it will easy on your wallet. :)
I know that in the past these parties have been a blast but you'll never know unless you go. Just look at it this way the first time i went to see Paul Van Dyk I had never heard of him before, of course this was many years ago but you seen my point.:D
To me it's always been about the music not who's playing it. |

No Simons didn't go under in fact Simon still own's the building the plasma Lounge is still open and they are still doing music almost every night of the week. things in Gainesville had change and the owner had a child so Simon leased the main room out to someone that opened a top 40 club. At any time he could open it back up but the time just isn't right i guess. Yes a rumor goes around every once in a while that it's opening back up but trust me when or if it does people know.
I was also there for Union Jack. I seen Paul Okenfold there a couple times in the 90's I have seen countless DJ's and Act's the List is to long to name everyone but if you can think of a show i was probably there.:D |

| I was actually referring to Platipus records there.... I just went to their website and it says "no longer trading". I never actually lived in Gainesville, I always traveled from Orlando or Tallahassee but figured the venue was still in operation. Sorry for the thread hijack :) |

Oh no... I just mis-understood what you were asking no worries.
I think platipus has a digital Lable on beatport but not 100% on that. All i know is that the digital era has hurt alot of the old lables Hooj Choons, Platipus etc. etc. |
