Hey guys, please listen to this mix and let me know what you think!

This was my first try mixing Trance, even though there's absolutely no opportunities for playing this stuff where I'm from... I love it and I'm trying to find out if I should keep at it. |

This is the correct part of the forum to post mixes in, not the other places where you also made threads. I'll take a listen this by the end of the day and let you know my thoughts.
Just so you know, trance isn't actually that popular on here anymore - a lot of people have moved on to other genres. |

Lol... I kinda assumed it would be mostly trance people... From the name... =P No worries, anybody I get to listen and comment is greatly appreciated!
I actually play mostly other stuff... Could you suggest what genre would likely go over well here? Maybe I could post some other mixes just for fun. Ive got Techno, Tech House, and Progressive mixes... |

Trance is still popular here, just not this commercial type of trance. Most people are more so into either classic or psy-trance, but that's a statement based on the regular posters. There are probably lots of non-posters who surf this board to download trance mixes. Techno, tech-house and progressive will be received well here, but don't expect many people to download or comment. What obligation does anyone here have? Hang around for a while, get to know people, participate, and then you might get some interest.
As for your mix; not bad if you're genuinely still a beginner. You've got beatmatching and most aspects of mixing under control, but you have a problem with your levels. The incoming track often seemed too loud or too soft.
Are you mixing on an actual physical mixer, or on a computer? If it's a physical mixer, make sure that before you cue up each track, you play it in your headphones for a little bit and watch what the lights on your mixer's dial are doing, then fiddle with the gain knob (look in your mixer's manual if you don't know which one this is) until the lights are peaking mostly in the yellow, and even a little into the red occasionally. Not all music is recorded at the same volume, so the purpose of the gain knob is to make sure that all your tracks have the same relative volumes before you begin mixing them together.
As for the tunes themselves, I'd suggest you try digging a bit deeper. This kind of superficial trance is like Fruit Loops or Captain Crunch; it's tasty and the best thing in the world in the beginning, but once you mature, you begin to realise it's just sugar-coated with no real substance. You played a remix of Liquid Soul's Devotion in here. I'd suggest you check out his original work to hear some trance with a bit more creativity. His work is by no means deep or complex, but it's a start.
You can listen to some samples from his most recent album here:

SCREW YOU! You cant say that about this music... its all subjective!!! lol im just playing. I hear what ur saying but I love this stuff :D Nothing better than this on E... Its just pure emotional impact. Im sure theres more creative, sophisticated stuff out there once you've been listening to trance for a while, but at this point im all about that emotional kick.
Im sure alot of people here would say alot of Armin's more commercial stuff is cheesy and lame... but the best night of my life was 2 rolls + Armin playing this kind of stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTiyGxzYwpA Its Jochen Miller vs Armin van Buuren - Lost Connection In and Out of love (AvB Mash Up).
That said... rolls or not, after hearing that stuff many more times its kind of losing its impact... So maybe you're right. But for now, the tracks in my mix still do it for me.
About mixing, you're right about the levels. I use Traktor which has auto gain. Its supposed to auto detect the proper gain level for each track, but for some reason it ed up on that 2nd track... Actually thanks for mentioning that. Im gona go now and fix the auto gain on that track :) |

| Hey Domesticated, just listening to some of the liquid soul stuff I get the feeling you might like stuff with a little more edge. Maybe ive got you pegged wrong, but if you've got it in you, I'de love to know what you think about this techno set of mine: http://soundcloud.com/leo-fabrikant/june-2010-techno |
