Program to find duplicate files?

I'm after some sorta freeware gizmo to help me out, I have the habit of making too many versions of files & would like to get rid of some of them now, but they're all over the place file-wise. Is there anything which will find similarly titled files and allow me to view them, making deleting easier?

Move your files to a Mac and the problem will fix itself.

It Just Works

u can move all files into one folder. then it will ask whether u want to replace existing files. say yes and you are done.

He said the filenames were similar, not identical.

yeah unless the file names are identical, i don't think there are any applications that will do this automatically for you.

edit: re-read OP, if you just want to search for them and then review them for deletion, you could maybe try XSearch. There might be better programs out there, but it should at least be better than what comes with windows.

re-edit: oh wait win7? nvm

Try this here.

http://www.easyduplicatefinder.com/

It has different kinds of file searches, might work.

CRC32 Checksum + Filesize
Byte-by-Byte Comparison
Filename Only
Compare Music Tags

I'm searching my C drive and so far it has found over 4000 duplicates using up 17GB. :wtf: :wtf:

, now it's at 5000 and it's only 10% done.
