I know i'm being pedantic but it is 6 not 12. In fact I am pretty sure it is certain multiples of 3 but I don't want to stick my neck out and I am pretty sure this does not apply to low pass filters and I honestly did that type of math 8 years ago. Basically all low pass curves have a first order rolloff of 6 dB / octave but lets say a 3rd order butterworth curve has a value of 18 dB per octave.

Anyways, the point is that these are not filter types. Lowpass high-pass or if you want to get specific bessel , chebychev, butterworth... those are filter types and someone designing a filter and the fact that they don't realize the distinction sort of shows who the vide is intended for.

I wish they would be more specific about the types of transforms they are using like the Cambridge EQ does.

did you watch the video?

Just watched the video and can't see how it should be really better than volcano. What's the advantage?

Without having used it, I wouldn't say that this is better than Volcano, just different and cheaper.

Then again, I tend to think of effects, such as filters, much like I think of spices when cooking - variety is a good thing. ;) But, maybe that's just me - some people like to get the most out of one tool (or spice), so YMMV.

As a little side note, IIEQ Pro works splendidly as a swept hi pass. Sounds lovely.

i see it exactly the same way! though i'm not a heavy user of standalone filters. usually a simple lpf or hpf is enough for my needs. everything else is done on synth-level.

but for someone who is into complex modulation of filters i can't see how it competes volcano. the €45 is just a introduction price.

Decent price on it, at least.. only $65. I prefer the Moog filter from UAD.

heheh, true that.

How are you liking Philta so far Raphie?

Raphie
To be honest, it's perfect for FX, but not to keen on the quality of the typical low pass lifts in housey breaks etc. filter seems to internal clip / overload a bit on certain (conservative) resonances, also sounds a bit hollow for that application, far from creamy sort of speak. But there is a demo version up there now

Yeah, I bought this the other day after playing with the demo and I'd say that pretty much sums up my thoughts on it. Other filters, like Volcano and FilterBank, have a much better sound when slowly opening or closing. But, for rhythmic effects, it's very nice and deep and definitely worth the $65. It's really more of a specialty filter, rather than an all-around go-to filter.
