Let's Talk Classical.

So with my parents demanding that I desire gifts for the holidays (how American of them), I've decided I may as well do CDs.

Specifically, I'm looking for a good recording of Schumann's (only) piano concerto, A minor, Op. 54. I've two recordings already (both pirated); the trouble is on one the piano soloist has forceful impulses on every ing key while the orchestra sounds wonderful, and on the other the piano playing is brilliant (Sviatoslav Richter) but the orchestra sounds like it's packed in a jack-in-box that never springs out. Having not paid a dime for them I suppose that's what I deserve :p

I am also seeking the symphonies of Brahms, and while I'm at it a pristine recording of just about opera by Wagner.

Saving the best for last: waltzes! Big fan of Johann & Josef Strauss and if anyone would point me towards more that'd just be bitchin'-sweet. :toocool:

While my OP focuses on notable CD recordings, I figure we can chat about composers, cellos, crescendos and the like. :)

dunno much about the above (although I have some cds with Richter lying around the house). Have you ever heard anything by Alexander Scriabin? Some eerily beautiful piano compositions.

A few of my favorite classical pieces:

1.First, my favorite composer, Chopin. Every single piece he ever wrote I LOVE. But here's a few of my absolute favorites:

(plus the chick in the middle 3 is hot too so she gets bonus points---like her with the hair short though)

Honestly I could post all his stuff up here. He can (could) do no wrong. Listen to the above with some strong dank and you'll be in another world.

2."Vorspiel" by Wagner from one of his operas (don't worry, no singing here :D, think this could actually be remixed into a kickass trance song)

sorry best version I could find... too bad about the fish and boat noises and stuff :p.

3. "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" (split in two parts unfortunately)

1:08 is one of the most epic music peaks I've ever heard. Shivers down my spine every time. If you like it get it on CD... the quality's e on youtube. I recommend this recording:

4. And of course the classic "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber. sadly been WAY overused in movies and such... still, it's beautiful:

5. I also enjoy Beethoven's 6th symphony a lot... despite my being unable to get images of Mickey Mouse in a wizard hat out of my head when listening to it.

(you can find the other 6 parts yourself :p)
