Hey all, everyone here seems to know a hell of a lot about the creation of trance. I'm curious to see the fruits of everyone's labor -- I'm sure there's a bunch of you with diesel original tracks just sitting on your hard drives waiting to be noticed.

I'll be the first to submit my track through the gauntlet *grin*:

It's a track that I wrote to precede CJ Bolland's "The Prophet" which I will close with in my next live set. Let me know if you think it's worthy to precede it (then again, what is? :)) I'm asking for some feedback in general and if you guys dig it, I'm gonna get it pressed and drop it live.

Another World - Promo (128k - 5.3MB)
Another World - Promo (64k - 2.6MB)

Old-school Oakie fans should appreciate it. ;)

I have to be careful not to overpower "The Prophet" with it (Ha! Never in energy or intensity, but technically). BTW, if I do decide to press it, I'll extend the ending to accomodate mixout.

Since a lot of people ask questions as to what software/hardware people use, here's my setup. Nothing EXTREMELY fancy, but it gets the job done.

Roland MC-505 Groovebox
Yamaha DJX1
Cubase VST32 5.0 (gotta love the soundfonts)
Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 2.0
Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 5.0

505 was used for rythm and bassline, Cubase with the soundfont strings (yanked from Brainbug, not loops, only the one stab), DJX1 for composition, and the Sonic Foundry progs for the obvious.

If this kind of thread is frowned upon, I apologize in advance. But if not, let's see your best!

Regards,
Arkainjel

Hmm, not too bad ... although the cello (or whatever strings you have in there) are quite intrusive, you might want to put them more in background ... same thing with voice samples. I really dig the bassline though !

Nice track...

The only thing I didn't like was a very sharp substitution of percussions around 1:40...

I liked your playing around with "cracked"...

Good job, man.

Arkainjel I don,t want to sound mean but its going to need some work , this trak needs to be mastered you need to EQ it add some reverb and most of all a lot of compression , you need to get the song to sound as loud and as big as possible ,compress every track separately than again when its down to one track . EQ the song, It needs some EQ work its to bass heavy , the kick needs to sound more puncher and the off beat bassline to Add sum reverb to the hole track this will give it a nice effect but dont go over board Now with the over all song make the start a bit more interesting you can bring things in together, not just by them self . With the arpeggiator that starts up at 44 sec needs some stereo paning , pan the notes so they move and dart around you be surprised how god It will sound . The brainbug stab leave the one you got but take away the underlying bass with it than add another one 1 octave higher , for everyone of the original stabs the new one should have three times as many. Pan them so they move around. With the vocals add a lot of reverb to them and when you repeat cracked pan it left than right than left than right and so on until it fads and I would filter sweep it , the Hi Hats need to be brought up and add sum more rhythmical sounds . I,am just trying to help.

Pete: No offense taken at all. I wanna make this a bombin' track to drop. Thanks for the comments! I'm thinking of posting my really hard one (Think Mauro Picotto's "Lizard (99 Mix)") too. It's a choice between that and this one.

I really appreciate your comments, and hell, I know you guys aren't out to get me. That's why I posted this in the first place. :)

To all who have commented, thanks a million. Keep the comments rolling. I'm gonna upload the finished track when I've taken everyone's comments into account.

Arkainjel can you post a sample when you have finshed, I would give a sample of my work but its in the early stages yet but I will post it on here
Fatboy
I think Pete pretty much summed it up here, but i'll repeat the stuff that i feel nedds to be worked with:
More compression, and loundness maximizing. The stabs could with advantage been played one octave higher together with those that are already there. Also more drumwork would give the tune some more energy. Still it's a cool track, just trying to give advices:)

I haven't been able to make much in the last months because of lack of time and other , but now i'm back, and have lots of tracks on my computer that begs to be finished. I, like Arkainjel, also have a tune on the net that i would like some of you to hear: http://www.traxinspace.com/Music/So...sp?SongID=41880

I know it's not the perfect song, but i have evolved since then, and i will post here when this is finished..

Peace

Good work Fatboy production is sweet , the start gose off . at 1:00 I like the way you have brought it in , the only thing that I dont like is that its to repetitive at the end . listening to your over all production I think you should be able to score a recording deal in the near future if you keep on working . What`s your software , hardware set up and how was the song put together??? .

Hey Guys, i would also like some comments on My track " Sound Interface" at www.ampcast.com/iznasty , i've been working on this one for the last few days, and i just wanna know if its good, and what can i do to make it even better, More Effects? Layers? and so on, i really would like ur help here, Thx.

I really dig this track, man. A couple things I would do is this: Make the strings just a little more prominent, or have a short interlude with just the strings, no beat or anything. Make the tension build and build with the melody... then drop straight into a bass drum hit and the offbeat bassline (only those two). From there, it's your creativity's game again. :) If done correctly, it can make the track diesel as all hell.

Damn, I really dig those strings. Are you using a sample? If not, what hardware/software?

Here's another point that I'd like to discuss: Think of how many songs are made amazing simply by the sound of the main instrument. Examples of this are Voodoo and Serano's "Blood is Pumpin'" and PVD's yet-to-be-released "Movement" (first track on his Berlin 12.17.00 mix).

What do you guys go about doing in order to make a great-sounding instrument? Are there any techniques to sampling/programming them? I only ask this because playing these tracks with a different instrument makes them sound rather dull and boring.

I know that an easy answer to this is, "Whatever would fit with the song." But these are not that in the least. Something else goes into them that I can't put a finger on (say "talent" and I'll thump you ;))

If it is simply what "fits", these tracks would only be decent and not amazing. My two cents. :)

Arkainjel

Thx for the comments, i'm going to work on those strings and bring them out alittle more.

The Strings Came with the NN-19 Sampler in Reason.

Not a bad effort Iznasty , the overall song is good when it comes together but its how it comes together is the main problem . when you right music everything you hear must have a purpose why it was there . what iam talking about is the cymbles and the snare buildups . reverse cymbals are usually played once just to bring some thing in and also the cymbal clash . with the snear build up just have one dont repeat them . also the pads which Arkainjel also pointed out need to be brought up or you could turn down the stab that plays over it . As for effects the pads I would layere them or even twice with another sound , you could even play another pad 1 octave lower and they dont have to even be the same notes , also ad some reverb to the pads and pan the layered pad , if you record the pads in stereo you will have to tracks , now what you do is pan one hard right and the other hard left , this is how you create space [ with the reverb and the paning ] in your pad . by the way Iam not having a go at you Iam just pointing out what I think needs work and keep up the work it might pay off one day.
