So, Bobby and I had always wanted to check out the Warehouse Project but never really had a good reason to do it.
This past weekend was Bobby's 30th birthday and some of our favorite DJs were there between Friday and Saturday night. We opted to take a quick trip over the pond to check it out.
Thought some of you might be curious to read about it so I put together a little review.
I have heard many sets that have been recorded at the Warehouse Project and all were awesome.
Friday night was Cocoon night - Guy Gerber, Sven Vath & Oner Ozer were in the main room and WHP locals in the 2nd room.
Luckily a friend of ours warned us that it is quite cold once inside so were were able to dress appropriately. It literally is a parking garage underneath the main railway station in Manchester (Manchester Piccadilly).
They put walls up to give the space some structure and rooms.
Everything was very well organized from coat check to the bar. There were a number of bars through the place. We never had to wait in line for a drink.
Friday was beyond busy. It was the biggest party I have been to in a long time. As a matter of fact I don't think I have been to a party that big in North America. Guy Gerber was decent but nothing special. I have heard him much better. You could tell that most people were waiting for Sven to come on. When Sven got on the crowd went nuts.
Sven had the crowd going nuts. He played for just under 3 hours. I can honestly say I haven't left a party with such a big smile on my face in a long time. There really is something about Sven. He knows how to manipulate the crowd and he plays big fun tunes that are easy to dance to. People were literally climbing the walls. The crowd had many layers and everyone was having equally as much fun.
I even have some nice chap announce to me that he had sex with Sven Vath.. lol.
At the beginning of 2010 I had Onur Ozer at the top of my list of DJs to see. I accomplished that by seeing him 3 times this year and each time he really disappointed me.
The sound in side the WHP was amazing and I am sure the natural acoustics helped that.
Saturday the main acts were more in the dubstep and or drum and bass type sound - except who we were there to see Ben Klock and Marcel Dettman going B2B.
Ben and Marcel laid down the best set we had heard all year. They would switch off every 2 songs or so and did so seamlessly.
They were in the second room of the WHP and it definitely suited them more than the bigger room. This room was more contained so it actually got quite warm while you were inside there.
I have nothing but good things to report back.
The washrooms were adequate as far as portapotties go, there was big room to chill in sponsored by BENCH, lots of bars, coat check was smooth and people were happy.
It is only open from the end of September to January 1 - if you are in the neighbourhood I recommend you check it out. |

Exactly what I thought the one and only time I've seen him play. People were everywhere. On shoulders, bouncing, jumping... everywhere.
