I genuinely enjoyed the movie on all fronts. I wasn't expecting some sort of deep, hardcore character development with tons of exciting plot lines and twists. Come on, people, it's a ing Disney movie where the characters are all wearing glowing suits. :stongue:

Who said anything about deep plot & hardcore character development? Why can't it just the right amount? It doesn't have to be extreme on either end. It's actually usually better if it isn't.

I didn't like Avatar, but after hearing both sides of the argument, I started to think that Cameron's approach was to give the audience a visceral experience, and that thinking too much about a storyline would have taken away from that. I can respect that. Still don't like it, but I respect it. I heard people throw the opposite argument against Inception... if they're in a dream world, there should have been more wildly fantastic visual design. But Nolan didn't want to distract you from the plot.

I haven't seen Tron yet, but I don't hear anyone going nearly as wild as they did for Avatar, so I don't think Disney can use the same defense.

Most people in this thread are saying that the plot lacked depth and Rotten Tomatoes is saying the character development was weak. I'm just saying that Hollywood these days lacks in the storyline department, so not to expect anything groundbreaking there. Sure, they could have done more, but what's the point of complaining about it? The purpose of the movie was to be entertaining, and I think most people who have seen it can agree that it was successful in that aspect. I enjoyed watching it at least.

What's the point of complaining about anything? It's just people saying what they think. Again, it's not about being groundbreaking. Few things are, yet they manage to entertain more than Tron did for nearly everyone I have talked to. Different people look for different things in movies. Most of my friends liked Avatar, while I didn't. That's cool. For me it's just about trying to figure out what is worth spending my time and money on.

Entertaining to me includes more than special effects and pretty colors. Sorry.

Who says that's the only thing that entertained me about the movie? I like Jeff Bridges, and I liked the original Tron. The story wasn't amazing, but it's not like it was that bad in my opinion. You're mistaking me with a mindless 13 year old.

I'm going to see it tonight.

It'll be my first time seeing a movie in IMAX so I'm excited.

Idk what some of you were on, but Tron Legacy was really quite an awful movie. The plot & consistencey were almost non-existent. The movie feigns substance, but it's just not there.

What saves the movie is the visuals and sound design. The special effects are really great, and the world they created is something to marvel at. The sound design was great as well. All of the vocal and sound effects really fit the film throughout, which is more than I can say for Daft Punk's sound track. Despite the fact that their sound really isn't dark or obscure enough to fit a futuristic dystopia in most cases, they actually managed to pull off all right.

Ultimately I enjoyed the look/sound/feel of the movie, more than the movie itself. Zeus & the club scene definitely stole the movie IMO.

I'll probably see it again, just not sober.

I wasn't trying to put you down or anything, if you enjoyed it that's fine. I was just saying that in my opinion, movies like this that substitute style over substance, as was painfully obvious in this case, are terrible movies and there's really no excuse.

Saw it Saturday night, 3D IMAX.

From the first note of the soundtrack I was reminded (somehow it wasn't fresh in my mind) that Daft Punk did the soundtrack. Got chills. Plus I had to fight back the urge to rock out when Journey's "Separate Ways" came on.

The movie is visually AMAZING! Jesus, I LOVE the design aspects used. I want to live in Flynn's house so badly.

Olivia Wilde...bangs....allow me to pick up my tongue.

Plot was meh. WAY too many ideas flying around trying to prove all kinds of moral points and smacked of Disney. The dialogue didn't really help either. The characters didn't really get me involved.

I liked the nod to Clockwork Orange, though.

Daft Punk's cameo was also great and kinda funny (the nod to each other and music change when the fighting started :tongue2 )

In conclusion: Average movie that's redeemed by amazing visuals and soundtrack (and Olivia Wilde).

+1 to everything!

If only it wasn't a Disney movie and was rated R.

Best. Daft Punk. Video. Ever.

Should note that there were lots of little references to the original as well.

Note the geometric figures Flynn has on his mantelpiece in Legacy.
