Yah I don't blame you. What's up with it being $60 anyway? It's bad enough they charge u that for the online mp shooters.

Dragon Age II totally missed being equally as good or better than DAO, and DAO Ultimate edition. I ill spent 70.00 for a piece of garbage that I would not even try to give away! The graphics are lousy, the character Hawke jumps around like a frog killing and maiming, and to make matters worse has a face only a mother could love. When the characters speak its like they have dentures that could come loose at any moment and start snapping at people all on their own. Bio-Ware slept on it's laurels from the other two, and tried to fix what was not broken. If you are going to spend that kind of money on a game get some reviews first, I unfortunately when out and bought it first and read later much to my regret. Lesson learned. Keep your money where it will do the most good...in your pockets this game is not worth it.

The best way i can actually describe DA2 is like this.

Dragon age 2 is to Dragon Age Origins what Deus Ex 2 was to Deus Ex. A "streamlined" version for the console audience.

:( Dues Ex 2 had so much potential, they really ed it up. I remember being extremely disappointed many years ago...

I personally like DA2 over DA, but not by that much. I mean, I'm too connected to my grey warden, but I was totally fine starting over. I prefer the story to this much better than in DAO because DAO felt like a gritty version of LOTR, and everyone knows that there are too many fantasy stories that are pretty much LOTR clones. I had no problem with there being a clear goal to the game, because living as a refugee and becoming rich was fun.

The battle system is better than DA1. I can't abuse cone of cold, potions, healing, and put that shield up on my tank which makes him invincible for some time. DA1 was very, very, easy once you got the hang of it.

Ive beaten DA2, (what can i say, it was a gift). Took me about 50 hours which is 30 hours or so less than it took me to beat DAO (without DLC). Thats while sticking my nose in every possible spot on the map in both games...which was much more fun in DAO mind you since it every cave, warehouse or underground passage where you fought enemies didnt look exactly the same as the previous different cave, warehouse or underground passage. The rehasning of resources in this game is beyond critical, and not something one would expect to see come from a company such a bioware.

As for combat i would ay that its way worse. Kind of like watching an anime, everybody glides and teleports (literally if youre a rogue) around the field doing very outrageous and cool looking attacks but if i wanted to look at that i would go and play a JRPG (which i actually stopped doing). Also something that bugs me in combat is that the enemies spawn in waves. Just when you finish off the last bad guy, oh look heres 10 more of them spawning out of thin air right in front of me that i have to beat as well. The fights arent really difficoult, but more anoying when you get swarmed by baddies.

Speaking of difficulty, was playing on hard and i dont think i died 5 times during the game. Like i said, the fights arent really difficult, just long and tedious. The final two are ridiculously easy (also the Arishok once you figure out that the way to beat him is to run around, stop, wait for his hit animatio to start, quickly move away and flank him while hes still attacking the spot you were at seconds ago and hit him with a critical), the hardest probably being the ancient rock wreight and the high dragon, and the dragon didnt actually kill m, just make me mad when he would escape in the middle of the fight and let dragonlings have a go at me.

Didnt even use a warrior in the party apart from the very beggining. Hawke was an rogue archer (assasin&shadow specialisations), Merril (blood magic and primal) Anders/Bethany (elemental) and Isabella that was a machine for scoring critical hits.

havent played it and even i know the combat is way worse. was reading DA1's dev blog and him explaining why he decided to take a backseat in 2, and it mostly boiled down to the stripping away of the tactical depth in combat.

I wouldn't say it was worse, but I do think the combat in DA2 is better, minus the streamlined stuff such as no auto-attack and no friendly fire. I found myself mashing early on, but later on, i was mostly pausing and strategizing.

In DA2 there is more micromanagement I felt. Mobs will randomly spawn in the map, so you have to move and protect your glass canons. I beat the game in hard mode (would play nightmare but it's so awkward on a controller), and you don't even need a dedicated healer in this one. The only thing that I felt was super dumbed down was the lack of friendly fire. Also, there is no auto attack... why?!

Even if your warrior taunts, there are random enemies who will go fight your warrior for a seocnd, and then chase after your mages, even if you aren't doing anything to gather aggro for your mages/rogues/softies so warriors won't always get aggro. It's more than just tank and spank. Cone of cold doesn't freeze all enemies this time like last game, and depending on taunt for aggro isn't going to do much.

Blast radius on some spells are smaller. I liked how they nerfed mages in this game without totally making them useless, because mages were clearly the best in DA1. class balance in this game is way better here than in 1, no one really felt useless. The skill tree is also much cleaner.

Ah-ha! i thought i sensed the basis of our disagreement. i honestly have no intention of turning this into a platform war, but DAO was a hugely different beast on PC than it was on console. possibly the most tactical RPG i'd played in ages, and on hard, was pretty ing hard. i have no shame in admitting the hardest setting was simply too hard for me.

Damn this game is loooooong. I'm going on close to 60+ hrs already and still have a bunch of stuff to do. I'm trying to kill the huge dragon at Sunder Mountain and it's nearly impossible. I put it on easy and still wiped :( PKC I agree about the difficulty. There is no way u can just easily beat these games on hard and especially nightmare without doing some mad pause/micro managing, and even then u are going to die a lot.

well that's good news at least. when i found out it was all about 1 city, i was a bit sad. you know how much i loved divinity 2, but the setting of its expansion in just 1 city was a real downer imo.

i think ive said it before, but the lack of exploration in bioware's titles of late really kills their appeal. more exploration pls.

so hard and nightmare are still a bastard then?

...

in other news anyone interested by kingdoms of amalur: reckoning? it features one of the designers from elder scrolls, the writer of one of my fave fantasy characters, drizzt, and apparently some guy that's a big deal in the comic universe.

on paper, its been sounding like a cashed-up version of divinity 2. am a little hard in the trousers at that prospect ill be honest.

I would bring as many potions as you can in that fight. I brought a const based aveline, 2 rogues with me being one of them, and high constitution blood Merril but any type of AOE mage will do. My Hawke is a dagger based Hawke that off tanks with decoy, but I always bring a spare bow for certain fights. What I did against this dragon was rush in with Av, taunt, then dance around. Basically you want the AI to think you are close enough to smack, but in reality you are always getting out of range. Sometimes my dog will do the tanking. In this fight I never Melee the high dragon.

When he flies up on that hill, I switch back to daggers and have my Hawke spot Merill and Varric because there will be stragglers for the small dragons that Av's taunt won't get. It helps to have the ressurection bombs that rogues have in this fight.

When the bigger dragons come, You want them to chase your tank, while making sure the aggro is on the tank. I kill the small dragons first, then the big dragons, but the big dragons won't breathe fire on you if you run around, and if they do breathe fire on you, you'll be far out of range to get hit sometimes. Just make sure the aggro is on your main tank.

I found this to be one of the games toughest fights, I wiped a lot before I thought "maybe I should kite/dance around"

Here's the bad news though:

The most disappointing part of this game is while it's 60+ hours in one city, they did the most inexcusable thing that blockbuster games in 2k11 shouldn't have done, and something that shouldn't be expected from Bioware in that they CONSTANTLY REUSE THE SAME DUNGEONS!
