Too much treble

I can think of a number of albums that easily fit that description, so what the hell happened this year? Chicane's "Giants" has to be the worst mastered album I've ever heard. I mean, who the hell lets that can't of through? It's unbelievable. |

I never really noticed it. Maybe because I put on the Chicane album as background music mostly. Gonna check it out once more. |

I agree treble is very over done these days and at least for me is too sharp and fatiguing. I hear this on a lot big trance tracks.
I guess they think such tracks stand out when buyers are perusing i-tunes and that's why they do it as an average person will instinctively go for something louder and shiny. |

Its because treble is perceived as louder by your ears, which means you can get more perceived loudness out of the track as a whole. Also, a lot of engineers probably have hearing damage and think that amount of treble sounds good since high freqencies are the first to go with tinnitus... |

Most pop albums I find have this issue, if you listen to Lady Gaga's the Fame Monster everything is so centred in the highs it hurts your brain, especially with headphones. A lot of EDM artists seem to have this obsession with overly high passing and boosting the resonant frequencies of vocals, so it literally hurts, case in point: Deadmau5's Raise Your Weapon.
Another track that I can't listen to at a decent volume because it's simply painful is Mark Knight's co production mix of Faithless' Sun to Me. Sooooo much treble, not just on the vocals but everywhere. |

i noticed this when comparing my tracks with other released stuff. my track seems bright and fine, but when i then compare it with big release it sounds duller. and at first i attempted to replicate the high end in terms of prominence but it just sounded nasty. |

Too much treble, not enough cowbell. |

I love the guy but Andy Blueman's whole Sea Tides album was absolutely horrible in the upper end. He's gotten better but the original mix of Everlasting was really hard to listen to. |

Most of his tracks are usually terribly mastered. |

The album is clipped so heavily it'd be hard not to notice.

Holy ! I just noticed this on The Dance Never Ends album. You'd have to be pretty deaf not to notice that. |
