Hey fellow TA users,

/Me has a problem. For about 4 weeks ago, i've bought a new DJ gear, including 2 (new) Gemini's Xl-500. In the beginng I had to get used to those strange things, but the salesperson told me it was normal, all costumers had to get used it them. Now I am 4 weeks further in time and still it works like . The problem is the following: I cue a record up, and when I start to mix it in I just have to keep 'pitching' the record with my finger. If I use extra pitch, the mix will go straight to hell. The strange thing is that @ friends, I can mix like the best. No problem what so ever. The same friends @ my place have encounterd the same problem with my gear. It looks like the motor can't keep the records up to speed. I've tried different slipmats (normal and rubber), but it doesn't make a difference.
Tommorow I am gonna call the store to ask them if this is normal, my question to you is: Are there any people who had the same problem, and is so how did you solve it?

With kind regards,

JunKX aka JX

What kind of turntables does your friend have? if they aren't the same model, then comparing them is no good.

The simple truth of the matter is, you have low end turntables, they are less than half the price of techs, so of course they aren't going to perform as well.

see if you can take them back for a refund if possible, a lot of stores have a 30 day money back guarantee, or sometimes even 60 or 90 days.

I hope for your sake you can take them back.

i have heard good things about these ones, they are a bit more money though:

My stanton str8-60s where less than half the techs price but they still kick ass. IMO gemini is no good, I never liked them.

Ok, the XL500s are maybe low end tables, but that's no excuse. They'll hold the speed worse than better tables, but they should still be able to hold it good enough. Hell, my first TT's (beltdriven ones) were even able to keep it straight for about one minute...

Look at the strobe dots. If they are moving consistently, everything is quite normal. If they are moving erraticaly (speed bursts etc), there is something wrong, and I'd take em back to the shop.

Gemini TT's are quite good actually..
especially the higher end models like the PT-2100, PT2400/2410, and the amazing PDT-6000.
The comparison between these and my MK3's are definately apart by a distance and thats due to their price. But i have tried the PT-2410's and the start up torque is good for its price and te LCD screen and pitch bend is an advantage. The blue cover and LED"s also look cool.

Anyway, back to the question...
as everyone has said, return it to the store and explain the problem to them. If they are bastards, you will have to send the TT's to Gemini (3yr warranty) for repairs. I am guessing you just have a bad batch of the XL-500's..

Hello,

Sorry if I insult you with this reply :)

I have pair of Gemini PT1000s

I'm not familiar with the 500s...but do you have a quartz lock or anything like that?

The quartz lock plays the record at 0 pitch, no matter what you do with the pitch sliders. Make sure it is turned off. On more than one occasion, I've thrown a record on table A, and another on table B. I try to beatmatch them, and it sounds like , then I see that little green quartz light on. DOH!

This probably isn't the problem, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Good luck, hope you can fix your tables!

I had that idea in my head.. and that may be the reason..
