wow, the things i heard in december, wow. there is literally tons of brand new dj's, new genres of breaks and the best part of it, its coming back harder than ever. but i dont wanna talk too much, ill let you hear it for yourself.
- REL1, the biggest surprise of 2010, im ashamed to admit i havent heard of him untill late november. guy is relentlesly remixing, rerubbing and rethinking the genre. hard hittin', body twistin', baby makin' beats for the true heads!!

-Los Rumbers....yet another act that literally blew my mind. my lifetime addiction to breaks started not only because of the beats, there was also the dancing aspect of it that made me go ape. every single one of us appreciates awesome dancers and nobody, and i mean nobody, can give you 2 hours boners like some of them b-girls. its an art inside of an art (breakdancing, not boner giving). well, Los Rumbers went that extra step and voila... flamenco breaks hit the fan. ass shaking went 150% throughout the world since that happened.

Respectfully, if this set is an honest representation of breaks, then I'm not a fan. Many of these tracks sound basically like electro tunes plus off-beat drums...

we can argue forever, but at the end is simply matter of taste. real breaks... i never liked prog breaks, didnt even consider them as a subgenre of breaks. but like i said, to each his/her own.
bass heavy driven breaks and booty breaks is all im about at the moment. considering i started as a old school/funky breaks head...you never know.

No you can't, Xavier Moriarty is the TOTA guru of breaks and when he says it's not breaks ... well it's not breaks, end of story.
There's only one type of breaks, old skool breaks and the nu skool stuff is just another sub genre of prog ... which got formed over time.

I'm not breaks expert but I always dug Hybrid, did anyone happen to record the set from Digweeds show a few weeks back?
I looked for a copy but came up short and then forgot.
I'd love to hear their sound these days....

Hybrid is the standard against which all prog breaks should be measured, IMHO ;) I only listened to the Mr. Mystery set. sorry, snoozefest. not bad, just way too chill for my tastes.
not much good to say about that Rasco set...ugh. without being too critical, I'll just call it sloppy. Big Belly Bass is much better, still nothing special, IMHO. I do like the some spanish influences...so if you find a set, post it!
I still prefer the old school funky breaks. I'd rather go hear Big League Chu than most 'big names'. booty, ragga, and hip hop breaks are great too and nothing wrong with some hard driving bass lines as well.
for booty, Deekline is the man. his stuff with Ed Sole (aka Defkline+Red Polo) and Wizard is generally solid
others I've liked...Myagi, Robb G, Stanton Warriors, Freestylers, Rogue Element + Evil Nine (older stuff), Elite Force, Freq Nasty, Plump DJs (gold standard for electro breaks), etc. though a few of them have seemed to veer off into other directions in recent years.
I've been pretty out of the loop lately and would appreciate suggestions though for some decent stuff. for the last year or two, I've happily gone off on a funk tangent with Fort Knox Five, Nick Thayer, Krafty Kutz, A.Skillz, etc. rather than listening to proper breaks too much.
anyone going to Stanton Warriors on Friday? I'd love to finally hear them spin at a club, but I'm not at all enthusiastic that Gallery is the venue. I get the whole "big DJ, small room" thing, but come on...them in Gallery? "limited capacity"...yeah right, lol.
