Have you tried going into DOS and renaming the extension to .mp3??? Could it be as simple as that??
Dont lose all hope just yet.... perhaps the virus left traces of the files. If you have a disk restore program it might be able to get them back. :) |

yeah, you should think about partition magic and other file utilities that will allow you to restore and/or undelete files...
I acidentally FORMATTED (not quick either) the wrong drive... 30 Gigs gone... and with partition magic, i got 95% of them back... the only reason I didn't get 100% back was because i played with the drive myself before using the utility and therefore wrote over some of the deleted files...

I'd bet also that if it was a virus, it just renamed/modified the files in the Windows File Allocation Tables, which would mean the files are still there.
I remember once I had a virus that changed all my MP3's to .inf files. I renamed them back to .mp3 and they all worked again. :)
Try renaming just a few of them back. Its worth a try. :) |

Do you know what kind of virus did this??
If you have a virus scanner, do a scan to find out what virus you have, then go to the Synematic (spelling?) website and download a fix for it. Those fixes can sometimes recover damaged files for you. :) |
