Somewhat OT: iPad, soundcloud player, and TA - no workie

I bought my wife an iPad the other day and I'm trying to view the soundcloud player embedded in TA threads, but it's not working - just showing a blank space. I can view and listen to the player on the soundcloud website just fine, but not when it's embedded here on TA. Any suggestions? FWIW I've already installed the soundcloud app.

Oh, and no I haven't been assimilated by Steve Jobs, nor do I plan to be. But, the iPad is very cool and addictive. ;)

Hah, this reminds whe Homer forgets Marge´s birthday, and he finds a bowling ball and buy it for her. BTW I got the same problem, I dont see the embembed sc, when I am browsing. Might be the Java issue, dunno..

The soundcloud player app do work.

:stongue:

That's not too far from the truth! Actually, a friend of ours had one when we were on vacation and my wife got addicted to it and asked for it for her birthday (end of this month). I decided to get it early since I knew she'd use it......and, yeah, I've been using it more than she has. :haha:

OK, so maybe the soundcloud issue isn't a problem on my end, then?

the embedded player format is flash only at the moment.

The lack of flash on the iOS devices has its pros and cons. In your case, it's very annoying I know. But many web designers don't believe me when I tell them that adobe's monopoly isn't a good thing either. Flash is for me a very pricey piece of crap, especially on the mac, very unstable, and very unsafe too, and I wish there was something else on the market to compete with it.

Ahh, OK. Thanks for the clarification Lolo! I'm a PC guy so I'm just used to everything containing Flash it seems. But, it's really not that annoying - it just means I have to get my lazy ass off the couch, give the iPad back to wife, and go look at the forums on my computer. :happy2:

flash sucks, dont worry about it. if ipad had flash you could forget about those 10 hours battery.

I don't get it. Flash even runs properly on my 2.5 year old nokia. I can do youtube, soundcloud no prob. If flash really would have been a a big deal they would have banned it from their pc's too.

It's relatively light on the cpu if you would compare it to HTML5 for instance.

The only reason Apple don't allow Flash is so they can ram their own version down peoples throats. So you would be moving from one monopoly to another. I have no issues with flash on modern machines, it works fine.

i think the problem is that flash accumulate memory usage. im not sure about this though but it seems that u have to close your browser after a while because everything u watched seems to cache somewhere. try to play the online game happy wheels, it has a memory meter on top and it just keeps rising and rising and after a while the fan on my laptop starts and then again after a while battery is out.

you're entirely right, but let's admit that flash is a battery killer, and for mobile devices forget about it. That's the main culprit.

Cryo, regarding your trouble opening those flash driven things, download that alternative web browser on the app store, dunno the name anymore. It plays flash and apparently it does very well. don't blame me though for killing your ipad's battery life :-D

Thanks - I'll check it out this evening. I'll probably stick primarily with the Safari browser and maybe just use the alternate one when I want to check out soundcloud tracks.

It is, but isn't that something they addressed in the newest build?

Unfortunately, it's not that Flash hasn't moved anywhere, it's the fact that batteries haven't. Look at smartphones, they barely get through a day because no one has come up with a better battery but the phones keep getting more power hungry. I doubt anything Apple comes up with will be much better.
