I have no idea what i'm looking for?
Are you worried about the amount of compression used? Or the lack of a variance across the song? |

| i think what he's trying to point out is that the frequencies are pretty much cut off somewhere around 17khz... but there could be various reasons for that... |

a 320k mp3 does not include 20khz+ , only wavs go that far. So both are wavs and if it was reencoded you'd se a brickwall at 20khz if it is a 320k , at 16khz with some 18khz peaks if it is a 192k and at 16khz if it is a 128kbps mp3.
And a VBR would look very random which is not the case, both seem identical, you see purple at 18khz not because it is a reencoded 192kbps mp3 but probably because the track is very limited at that frequencies, i usually cut some sounds at that frequencies, why the hell you want a bass playing that high?¿ In addition 20khz+ sounds are really annoying, you'll rarely want that in your productions (Although i've seen sometimes the usage of that frequencies intentionally, didn't like the results though) |

Can most people who are 15+ years old hear 20kHz+ sounds? |

i think people that can actually hear a 20khz tone are very rare. and people who can hear a 20khz frequency above the noise of a common electronic dance music track are even rarer...
and i wouldn't say that mp3s don't include 20khz frequencies. that very much depends on the used encoder, or more specifically: on the psycho-acoustic model used by that encoder... |

i can tell you that i'm 20 and i hear up to 23khz but i've always taken a lot of care with my ears since i know that when i grow older i will lose this "skill" and i don't want to be deaf at the age of 30, however i agree is difficult to hear that frequencies when they're present on a track. In some techno tracks the pitching leads to this frequencies and i find it very annoying.
