One of many million examples. I've also noticed alot of producers adopted this, in effect sounding almost like each other thus losing the uniqueness that made them sound different from each other. (Look at Michael Woods as an example)

Innovative, or just ing downright irritating?

well i like pre-shifted claps is one of the trends now, the same as using kicks with a high clip. I liked a lot the kicks and snares of the old trance, were less intrusive and the snares and claps where simple but less anoying... sample packs don't include this kind of material anymore, you can get close but the sound is so different that dj's won't want your tracks because they are not going to sound well in the transitions...

Though, did you ever at a point feel like you had no choice but to adapt (listening/production purposes) to this trend from the old-school style because everyone else is doing it?

I've called it the "whip clap" for a while. It seems to have wormed its way into lots of tracks and become annoyingly common.

Because kids these days must copy other boring artists to become #1.

i would love to hear some claps in trance that sound like this tho:

The minimal clickity-claps sometimes even appear in uplifting trance, eg Signum's Addicted.

i never really noticed this clap pattern before.

But I do agree with the person that said kicks were less intrusive in the old trance tracks. Its true. To mix modern music into old music alot of times you'll feel an energy drop just because the modern kicks are so ing in your face
