Pezzner @ FW review

Musically this was an amazing night, I got in around 12:45 and was surprised that pezzner was already setting up to get on.
Fw was busy but not rammed with people and it was great to see a slightly different crowd for a change, Pezzner played a very nice melodic deep tech/house live set, it's great to hear his style of music at fw, i wish we'd get more guys of his caliber in this place for fans of deeper productions. I recognized a few tracks including his remix of toronto's Co-Op guys which i was hoping to hear on fw soundsystem. What i really enjoyed was that the volume was pleasantly lower than what it was other nights, i'm not sure that it was pezzner's choice or FW finally lowered the volume slightly because of previous suggestions, it was great hearing music proper without having to move away somewhere to the back without getting crushed with the bass but still loud enough to enjoy.
Jeff Button got on after pezzner and right away the energy in the place increased/improved, i really don't know any of the tracks he played but it was a great pace/music selection for the timeslot he was playing, not too banging crazy but still much more energetic music to keep people going for the rest of the night, i had to leave around 3:30 so i didn't catch his whole set but it was finally great to catch him play after a long time.
Overall great night at fw :)) |

What a fun night!
Came in not really sure if I'd end up playing, to having Gera sending me a text to come to the DJ booth at 2:45 saying Pezzner was looking to finish right at 3. Really enjoyed his set (especially the last half) - and seeing as it was really only my 3rd time closing FW ever, I was pretty excited for the opportunity. Crowd was awesome, and I was quite happy with the fact that so many stuck around to the end. I'll post my set in here once I get it, looking forward to hearing it myself :)
Thanks to Bounce & Footwork for a wicked night - can't wait for Feb 12th w/ Lee Foss (I'm calling that the potential sleeper pick for POY) |

Also forgot to mention I really like what Gleeson was playing - missed Rich's set entirely, which I'm bummed about...
Only part about Mike's set was me betting DJ Jon Jon that a song he played was the Mark Knight remix of Coma Cat. I didn't even have a drink into me at that point, and I was $20 in the ing hole. |

This was an awesome night of music for Toronto. Pezzner delivered exactly the way I knew he would. So happy!!!
And what a dude as well. He was in the club by about 11:30pm chatting with everyone and laughing it up. Pezzner is truly a grounded man.
P.S. Rich Hope sets the bar high for opening sets in 2011. Awesome build-up buddy! Looking forward to hearing the recording! |
