Anyone go to this event? What are peoples thoughts?
I checked it out and had a good time there. The vibe was very electric as described before, and there was a lot of Aoki fans there. Couldn't believe the intensity going around to try and get tickets, friends of mine told me people inflated their tickets 200% more then the original advance selling price! I got mine cheap at the beginning of sales, so I was glad I didn't get caught up in that boat. Seems there was frustration with the fans that there is still no liquor license there, (mainly getting this from the facebook page) but the venue did a great job throwing this party, as well as all the others in the past. For no alcohol being there, it is surprising that so many turn up and these events go so well, a lot of fans of EDM I guess here in waterloo. Although I'm surprised at this, I sure am glad this is the turn out, because the vibe of the crowd is just fantastic (you can dance into everyone there and everyone simply apologizes to each other!), no drunken rages. I just do feel sorry for the owners and watching their investment loose money at every event. At least their advertising is positive and going well, something I think will help them in the future.
As for the sound, I heard about a noise complaint earlier that cost $500, that sucks. However, i found the sound much better this time then at Gareth Emery, seems by forcing to turn it down slightly, the bass is at a much more even level for sound quality. Plus that night I went out on a mission to find music ear plugs, knowing the sound was big there, only to find every store closed that sold them, so the volume for me was just perfect.
As for the coat check situation, I understand that you cant expand it due to funds, but it sucks to worry about your coat when your trying to party. That was my situation when I was there, I ventured to the VIP area where I stashed it every thirty min to check up on things. Didn't need to do that after 12am, there was so many coats piled on top of mine that it would have been a chore to take mine out. When up there I thought that it would be a smart idea to make a temporary coat check in the corner VIP booth. Could be able to hold at least another 100 coats up there, and the check fee I think should be able to cover the cost to make one.
Lights were great once again, I really enjoyed the two new lasers at the front on each end of the dj booth. And the main laser seemed to work better, I know you guys mentioned it was only at 10% functionality when you had it on DEC 16th, what was it at now. Only negative part i felt about the lights at this show was the bright green or blue swirly lights you had going on the walls. They were really bright which took away from the dark club feel. They fit in well with the event and the vibe this time, but I feel could be a negative with an event with less intense house music and progressive music, just a thought.
Overall had a good time, and was really glad the line up situation went so smoothly. Didn't wait long at all, and thought I got there late, so that was a plus. Also enjoyed the new DJ's from the competition, great way of encouraging and discover new acts. Thanks Beta, looking forward to AVICII, but even more for Sander van Doorn.
What can we expect next? |

How were the sets? How was Aoki?
Coat check sounds like it's becoming a big problem if people are just dumping their coats in random corners of the club. It's only a matter of time before people start losing (and stealing) coats. |

Glad you had a good time.
I would say laser is at about 50% now LOL... some work to do.... but it is coming. Sound was better, sound engineer levelled the FREQS before the event.
There is a lot going on in respect to special effects. Behind the DJ booth if your referring to the stage bars? They are my fav part. When used properly they just are amazing.
Coat Check.... I know it BLOWS... Just need our license. Over $400k in lost revenues already. Don't want to spend money on anything until we need to. Want to make sure we have money aside for rents, bills and possible professional fees.
AVICII will be great.
Thanks for coming out! |

I only caught the second opening DJ set, which was disappointing because I enjoys Barry's sets. Veiga I think the second Dj's name was, he was really good, I got into his set and enjoyed the tracks he played a lot, went well as an opener. The Aoki set started very much normally, normal Aoki type tracks, and then broke into some wild energy. He is a pretty intense guy usually at his show so i guess it shouldn't have been unexpected, but it turned very much into a heavy rock type show, with him singing and jumping into the crowd with an air mattress at one point. He really knows how to get a crowd going, to get to the front of the crowd you had to start from the back and really get yourself in, people were really into it. Then he went into some dubstep, and I left before the end, he never was one of my favorite dj's but still was a fun night out, and something completely different then most acts. I heard the closing dj's set was really good, so I was sad to miss it, anyone catch this? |
