According to http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-...10&type=assists it was just one.

And according to the Castrol index, which claims to be an "objectively analysed rankings system" he is ranked only 3rd among the Argentine team, 11th among forwards and 54th overall. And that's not because all those other players were just a little more lucky. A lot of them were simply better.

see here: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archiv...strolindex.html

Nice try anyway, now go and troll someplace else. I know I will. :)

And where is he in the overall Castrol rankings? Take a look yourself: http://www.castrolfootball.com/rankings/rankings/

Now, I'm sure you'll claim you're only talking about the World Cup and so his overall rankings (and 47 goals in 60 appearances for the season) aren't relevant, but given this is a thread about the Ballon d'Or I'd have a long hard think about who's trolling when you come into the thread and diss him based on five performances in a dodgy team and a substandard competition in the summer.

Incidentally, a quick inspection of those Castrol rankings should have anyone questioning the validity of an objective system that puts Frank Lampard as the world's current third best player.

Yeah, indeed I could try and make that outrageous claim (that I was only pointing out the weak WC performance instead of his general lack of ability) and explain the Ballon d'Or with his surely much better performance for his club.

...

Oh wait, that's exactly what I said in the first place:

You don't know what "ad hominem" means.

What was your point? There's a large amount of controversy with the WPOTY award in World Cup years, because FIFA tends to grossly exaggerate the importance of the tournament in the nominations. Hence why Asamoah Gyan was on the list and not Didier Drogba. If you come into this thread and only discuss the World Cup, it can only suggest the following:

1. You're self-admittedly too ignorant to have any valid input into the thread, but you want to chirp up anyway.
2. You're backing FIFA's over-emphasis on one competition.
3. You're trolling.

Which option reflects most kindly on you?

4. I'm aware of (2) and expressed that FIFA cleraly refrained from it this time.

I've got a six pack and a BMI of 18.8. Good line in irony, though.
