Advice for apartment hunting (scam)

So I came across this website the rents out apartments in the classifieds.
If you check out some of these links for rentals, please don't get taken by this scam.

I have contacted a few postings and the owner/property manager will send you an application with a lengthy email stating that they give you an address for you to see the outside of a building but can't show you the inside because they have moved overseas somewhere to do "Gods work" (in most cases) and they need some money up front to send you the keys.
Some of these places are very plush looking for a fraction of what you'd expect to pay, so no wonder it got me emailing them right away.

So besides pointing out the obvious now, what actually really surprises me is that this is the kind of link that shows up 3rd when I googled house rentals in toronto.

direct linkhttp://toronto.nowtoronto.com/Apart...?region=Toronto
examplehttp://toronto.nowtoronto.com/Apart...toronto/6431781

Anyone know of any other websites that may advertise this clearly fraudulent activity?

these scams are ALL over kijiji and craigslist. You have to be a retard to be taken in by them

These ads are just lame. We advertise our apartments on viewit.ca if that's any help.

850 for a one bedroom, brand new in Yorkville???

That's an amazing price...

Where do I sign up...

There's no way someone would rent the apartment pictured there for $650 and allow pets (no offense to pet owners out there).

Ya, saw a bunch of them when Ian and I were looking last summer. One was actually at 40 Gerrard and the guy claimed that he had renovated and put in new cabinets and a fireplace but he couldn't send me pictures.

Hate scams :whip:

If you click on "Other ads by this user:
$680, 2br, This beautiful two bedroom apartment for rent un Ottawa " at the bottom of the page... that Ottawa appartment has the same furnished living room.

Definitely hate scams. It's so annoying having to sift through them.

Those scams are pretty obvious by the posting. Insanely good deal, photos that look like stock-photos from a condo website. If you've spent any time looking for apartments in Toronto, you have a sense for what the 'market rate' is for the type of place you are looking for.

If something is really far below the market rate, it's either a) in James Town, b) a scam.

Really, if these people had their 2br listings in Yorkville for $1,700 - more people might bite, but when it's listed for like $800 - it's such an obvious scam you'd need to be a moron to fall for it.

yikes! somehow never saw these when I was looking for a place 3 years ago but this is scary :\
