Roll Call: Anja Schneider @ Wrong Bar - January 15th (pg. 4)

Never been to Wrongbar till last night, but I always liked hanging out in Parkdale, wicked down to earth music loving crowd.

I had been listening to some of Anja's stuff on line prior to the night to get a feel of what I might get to hear and honestly wasnt expecting to be blown away or all that impressed because my techno tastes are very VERY particular these days, and the youtube videos were not making me feel her much.

Last minute, I ended up being designated driver, so my expectations of the night downward spiraled, and i wasnt really looking forward to much.

I smoked a joint (which I never do), chugged a few red bulls, and started to listen to her just as she got on.

WOW......serious busines this lady was.......the sound I heard I could call a fusion of proggy, happy tech, with a dash of minimal.

For not drinking anything, or being under the influence of anything other than some bad weed, this sound kept me bouncing for the better part of the night, which hasnt happened to me in a LONG ING TIME.

She lost me a few times with some tracks that are just too minimal for my liking, lacking soul or flavour, jsut too boring, but imediately redeemed herself, always playing a great track to follow the few boring ones she dropped.

The music had house soul, techno foundation, and progressive highlights. I dont hear much techno these days, but thats my interpretation of what made me dance.

One of my best nights out in a while and it had the weakest expectations of any party ive been to in the last year at least.

Anja is def worth checking out, I think the small venue always makes a DJ play and sound better than the big room stuff I watched on youtube for the hype.

PS, ING SOUND SYSTEM! WOAH, perfection.
PSS, Terrance Kissner is always top notch, perfect opening DJ for her.

last minute/fence decision that paid off big time. Great night out.

The club:
-Finally a party not at FW. As much as I love FW, its so bloody overused. So a change of scenery was much appreciated.
-The sound was great all night, loud, but not loud enuff for plugs. It felt it lacked bass...but that might be the music itself, not the system.....i would of like a bit more humpff
-Drinks are cheap.
-Overall layout is not bad. Lots of seating to rest
-The parking situation is a bitch in that area. Now that i know it better, it should be easier next time

I look forward to hitting Wrongbar again.

The music:
Caught 20 mins of Terrence Kissner and enjoyed his opening. Great minimal.

Anja's set was pure fun and a breath of fresh air. Haven't heard anything like it in a long time. The first half was melower and really picked it up towards the end. The highlight of her set was that song saying "its my house". It made the place errupt! I wish she would of kept the pace after that track instead of slowing down.
From far away, I could see her dance a storm in the booth and smile. Looks like she had a great time.

The crowd:
-Thank god tons of friends were around cuz the rest of the crowd was pure annoying.
-Drunk bimbos humping like a train and bumping into you.
-Dance floor cruisers with no manners
Good thing it started thinning out past 2.

Is it me or fur is making a come back...or its just the area? I saw 4-5 fur hats + coats. I just wanted to pet them lol.

Overall: 10/10 cuz the music/friends was just too much fun

Bahahaha remember the drunkin girls right behind us that fell on the floor? Had me laughing all night those girls did. Haven't seen drunkiness like that in awhile and I was pretty toasty myself.

All in all what a fun night, friends were top notch and the music was decent to say the least.

Really loved the track where I kept growling and buzzing in your ear Pat. Any idea what track that was? Loved it. So dirty!

Thought it was a very enjoyable night overall. Love the venue, somewhat liked the mixed crowd (it's a step up from the places I usually go to), and the dynacord sounded great in that space!

Anja impressed me a lot more than last year; not only because she was actually able to finish her set this time.. She played all the best tracks from her recent Dance Under The Blue Moon mixes and recent sets, and left out most of the crap. She started to get a bit bland towards the end but overall it was great. Tune of the night would have to be

M A N I K - Pure Liquid which is due for release next month. This track sounds even better live and on that system!

The only song I remember from Sat with the words House in it was this one: Eddie Amador - House Music - (Deep Dish Unreleased Remix)
