Haha, I was doing a radio studio thing in a Red Bull pilot project in Amsterdam about 2 years ago (called the Rooms of Red Bull which is going worldwide this year I think). A lot of the artists that came round were really pushing dubstep and I couldn't take any of it to be honest. Skrillex is the first one I actually like.

I've always though this was one of the greatest pieces of music ever created, in any genre across all time. It's also hard to find many people who don't appreciate it, which speaks volumes in itself.

Which in itself is interesting and explains the current music culture. I would probably settle more toward Brian Eno, or in EDM Wippenberg, or Jorn van Duynhoven.
In my view one of the worst things to happen to EDM, trance in particular in the last 5 or more years is the focus on production rather than composition.
You have tracks from the late 90s and early 00s which engineering wise aren't fantastic but they hold a compositional magic that the vast majority of modern releases lack. The older I get, the less I give a crap about how "tight", "clear" and "punchy" a track sounds and the more I focus on how the track makes me feel.

true, but trance also evolved in it's style, and i personally think that 90's producties have a loth more depth than the most recent productions (loudness war)
maybe after 30 years I'll get close to produce a track like this
