As is the way with these things....I'd intended to backup a lot of my mp3s and programs onto CD tomorrow, so...guess what happens today?
My hard disk just completely stops working. Seems the disk itself is just totally knackered. So there goes numerous number of programs and a couple of thousand Mp3s down the toilet...
I spent the last 2 hours reinstalling XP onto a new disk, which as coincidence would have it, I bought earlier this week as I figured I needed more space...(not anymore, hah)
and the best part?
I have a crappy 56k dialup, so it should only take me all of, oh... 5 years to recover the majority of the progs I'd downloaded.
A word of advice to everyone....whatever you're doing right now, stop and backup everything you have
Sorry, I just had to rant. I'm a little in shock right now. I'm sure tomorrow morning I'll sink in how much I've actually lost :(
btw, I just reinstalled Direct Connect. What do I need to type to locate the TA hub, so that I can enter my username and password?
Thanks |

| everyonce in a while a few will pop up... i've seen plenty here... i just find them funny... if losing some mp3's is your biggest dilemma and causes so much emotion then you're living a charmed life... |

Firstly, by no means is losing some Mp3s, the biggest problem in my life.. and I'm sorry if I gave you that impression, and secondly, it's not just the Mp3s..it's everything on the disk. I wouldn't say I've overdone the 'emotion' representation either, although it certainly is damn annoying when it happens.
I just hope you don't find out how annoying it can be :) |

| I have a good 25 Gigs of mp3s on my hard disk... there's no way in hell i'm gonna burn 40 cds... too lazy. Either I loose them or I get a DVD burner that puts 4.35 gigs on every blank. |

| man, check the hard drive. see if there are any burned chips. there might be slight chance that your drive isn't dead yet. it could be not spinning up, for that you have to remove the data cable so that only the power cable is connected and touch the side of the drive to see if it's spinning. also there could be an i/o error, but that's unlikely unless you physically bent a connector like i did to my brand new 40gig 7200rpm baby... |
