Yes, a little, for the students who take "advanced placement."

Not for the average, though.

OK, it's better I think. It's not necessary to know such things unless you want to learn economics/science.

imo :p
MrJiveBoJingles
Well, maybe. I guess most students will never end up using that stuff, but our public school system here is not a very good start for those interested in math-heavy fields.

Look Nou, you aint no ing Srinivasa Ramanujan get into college already, ffs.

there are plenty of used books you can buy off of amazon.com to teach yourself math. books by dover publications are pretty good and very cheap. many of the schaum's outline series books are also good.

you dont absolutely need to know the esoteric, higher level and super abstract stuff and if you do end up in software (like me) the odds that you'll ever be coding up a crazy math algorithm yourself are pretty slim, these days alot of third party libraries are available that will do it for you.

unless you're going into research (as in, developing your own algorithms) or aiming to become a quant...then you'll have to up your game by learning things like stochastic calculus, probability (with calculus), and so on.

that said, algorithm analysis is an extremely interesting topic and if you ever decide to get into it then you will have to be pretty solid in math skills, a rudimentary familiarity with trig and algebra most likely will not suffice.

I hate programming more than anything, but more power to you if that's a career within reach.
