Researchers Dr. Michael Kilgard and Dr. Navzer Engineer from The University of Texas at Dallas and University-affiliated biotechnology firm MicroTransponder report that stimulation of the vagus nerve paired with sounds eliminated tinnitus in rats. A clinical trial in humans is due to begin in the next few months.

I could use some of this treatment. I need to have a fan running at night to fall asleep properly.

my question is, tinnitus is just the realization that your ears got exhausted so... eliminating tinnitus means that your ear is "repaired"? I don't think so, this is a bit useless, this last for a night or maybe 2, not a real illness.

You have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

i probably didn't express my self appropiately, i was refering to the noise you hear after listening for loud and distorted sounds for a long time (This usually last for a relatively close amount of time) . Not the tinnitus caused by water in the ear or a virus etc... people who suffer this constantly obviously are waiting eagerly for a cure, i experienced this for some months but hopefully it disappeared.

In fact probably you don't understand what tinnitus is in this case, we have very sensitive cells in our ear, when this cells are exhausted their way to express that they're working too much and being damaged is this particular noise, they'd express this as pain but there are no nerves attached to them.

The side effects of hearing tinittus is a degradation of the sound you listen, mostly you lose the ability to perceive high pitched sounds, age is the most important factor but little things that aren't very obvious also case damage to you (I think this is widely known but someone may find it interesting so i will point out some daily routines that damage your ear)

-Using headphones (loud volume)
-Driving with your window down at high speed
-Crowded streets, packed with cars and specially in maintenance with drills etc...
-Pop Music

the sound you hear after going to a club is the death of the little hairs in your ears. its their scream.

tinnitus is permanent tho. i have it. the treatment is not what it seems. these kind of treatments usually damage the nervous system and create problems elsewhere. they developed them for people with chronic pain, and sometimes they fail seriously (the chance for this to happen is pretty high). there is stress in the article on creating a minimally invasive procedure. why? because there are always unintended effects in invasive treatments to do with nerves. They don't tell you, but sometimes, with treatments for chronic pain, the symptoms become worse.
