I'm haz buy Omnisphere
XP Pro 32, 4GB RAM (Ok, 3) and a Q9450 quad
should I worry?
I've got a 64bit upgrade coming anyway, but Omnisphere will probably arrive first and i'm not sure if it's worth installing on my 32 bit drive or not. |

Should be fine. Just whether or not it's worth the bother if you're going to format the whole bloody thing again to go 64 bit? |

I've not had any problems with it, patches load quickly, using only one instance for a few tracks works pretty well too, it's probably my favourate synth tbh. |

I've only run Omnisphere on 32-bit - first XP, then Vista, and now W7, all with 4GB RAM. You've also got a better CPU than mine (Q6600). I don't think I've ever used more than 4 or 5 sample-based patches at a time, but haven't had a problem. If you plan on using a lot of Omni channels with sample-based patches, 64-bit will obviously be better.
FYI - I'm not sure how familiar you are with Omni's synth architecture, but each patch can have 1 or 2 layers and each of those layers can use either synth-based (DSP waveforms like any soft synth) or sample-based sources. The synth-based sources are going to use processing power, whereas the sample-based waveforms are going to use memory. So, it really depends on the patches that you're using as to whether your CPU or RAM (or both if one layer is synth and the sample) is taking the hit. |

man if you are still using 32 bit in this day and age, my sympathies go to you. |

I'm rockin 64 gigs of ram. Do I use it ? Does it matter. The point is that 4 is not really that nice of a number. Sure it has a perfect root but so does 64 and 8 as a root is much sexier than 2. You can't spell great without 8. |

Ok cheers, I'm going to be doing a dual boot (separate HDDs) and keep the XP32 install as well so I think i'll install Omnisphere on there anyway.
And as for still only having 4GB, it just shows what a skilled mofo I am to be able to create such stunning creations with such meagre tools. |

Lol, at home I work with the standard 1gb of RAM that came with my imac. |

RAM and CPU is overrated. 64bit too. in fact 32bit also. |

That's because you're using a stupid silent mac

well all I can say is that with my 64 gigs of ram, Ilife runs like a dream. I just made a movie with Imovie and it took literally 1 minute to convert my dog video to dvd format. These machines are insane. The beauty is that often, I want to make a cat dvd at the same time which is fine because i'm using the 2 mac pros in tandem. So I can render both a puppy dvd and a cat dvd at the same time. |

You using a server as your main pc or what brosef?
Requiar normal motherboards with 16 slots of DDR3.
Anything over 12 gigs isn't really practical for normal application anyway...6 gigs of DDR3 will happily open as many firefox windows playing flash as your heart desires. |
