i've played it using MAME before. it's awful. of course, most games made in 1986 were awful, sooo...
but tbh when i think of "terrible, old school gratuitously violent for the sake of being gratuitously violent" video games, this one in particular comes to mind- i'm pretty positive its likeness was used for that one simpsons episode where bart gets caught shoplifting "bone storm."
pretty sure this came out before mortal kombat too (or was a ripoff of it), which is funny being that mortal kombat was a big reason about why parents flipped out about violent video games in the '90s, yet they totally skipped over this gem of a title. lol.

One was definitely ripping off the other, that is for sure. I even think the announcement voice is the same.
Although "legless victory" is pretty much way the hell better than anything Mortal Kombat attempted.
