Because the right direction is: stop complaining on the internet, sit your ass down, work on a song.
If it sucks, try again. If it still sucks, try again. If it still sucks the third time, try again. If after one year you don't think you're good enough, try again. If after two years you still don't feel you're good, try again. Eventually, you'll do something and think "Hey... wait... I like this! I'm getting somewhere!" Some people get there sooner than others, that's not a big deal. But you can't just skip all the work. Sure, there are tutorials that will show you various techniques that will help give you that "bigger" sound you want, but in my honest opinion they are all worthless. Actually, you might not want to take me seriously on that since in two years I've progressed to a point that most people achieve in less than 6 months.
But that's not that point!
The point is that tutorials and templates will only get you so far, most of what you will learn will come from twiddling some knobs and realizing that when you do this fancy maneuver, everything sounds a little better. Like everyone has said, it will take a while, but so does everything else in life. Very few people can lay their hands on a musical instrument for the first time and be good at it. |

if im honest guys, i seem to be getting a negative vibe with 99% of the answers here. Im not looking for a wisdom talk on how ill be old and grey before i can make something worth releasing. I dont believe in that. I read that on Gareth Emery's road to fame, he created a mix for Armin over the course of 2 weeks whilst on holiday purely on his laptop, which was a huge hit with Armins fans, all over the world. |
Yes, and how long was he producing before this moment arrived? I'd guess it's well over a few years before he struck gold.
Edit: And yes, wikipedia tells me I'm right. |

i feel day by day i am better at least technically, this is the only thing that keeps you on production but welcome to a world of frustration. Chances are:
1) People will love it, and the problem is that you'll probably pass down without having created a hit, you will be Mr. Nobody for 99% of the people.
2) People won't like it, this is less frequent, people usually like new stuff at least in my case, but as i've said only hits change the game.
3) Labels won't like it, frequent, they're so picky and at the same time they sign variated . Mainly they look for well produced and simple tracks, if it's either badly produced or too complex they will reject it. It's not the first time i receive an answer like "Make it more simple"
So in the end you'll probably think. Why i'm producing?? Try to enjoy what you do, ocasionally receive some support and keep trying, all the artists you listed were Mr Nobody yesterday and today are big stars. |
