| next can i go on a rant on people that use mixed in key?:p |

| or djs that think red lights lighting up on the mixer make everything sound more "phat". |

I'm just messing with you Jay, I know what you meant.
On the other hand, Traktor is not the cause of bad DJing, it's just an era. I have seen people do crazy stuff and they were not from the turntable days.
From the minute we went from analog/turntable to digital/CD, we were already "cheating" when it comes to beatmatching.
A Monkey could do it. Everybody knows the 0.8 trick by now.
SO the sync button is not a far stretch from a CDJ.
But yeah, back in the turntable days, a lot of practice was required. It wasn't easy. But it's more about hard work vs lazyness then technology. |

practice makes perfect, even with traktor...that being said traktor also leads to djs playing out that could benefit from a little more time in the bedroom.
traktor should be a tool to create an impeccable experience, so when i hear shoddy mixing in a traktor set i find it criminal that someone would pay a person to do the equivalent to nothing.
the autosync at the end of the break gets to me at times. this is a product of waveform mixing. Count the beats from the beginning and they will learn that there are other ways to mix in the track to create more drama instead of thye standard outro/intro mix.
traktor effects need to die in a fire, they are awful:p
you got to where you are because you learned martin...that is all i am saying. You can use traktor properly because of the understanding you gained while learning the old fashioned way of mixing. |

either way bad djs are criminals no matter what the medium they use:p

traktor is the antichrist though...in the hands of a talented individual it is a tool of the gods leading to magical things for sure...but the reality is that especially in this city...that it has created a new generation of atrocious local djs who don't have the slightest concept on how to build or mix a set because they didn't learn any theory.
beat matching yourself does not make you a better dj, but going through the process of learning how to mix without looking at a waveform does. The practice leads to you being better at improvising, reading the music, and creating appropriate tension and release instead of always pressing autosync at the end of a break.
let me use Hakimm as an example here, because i remember when he was learning. The guy would spend weeks on end doing nothing but counting beats...he learned to mix on all platforms and because of this became a good dj. He didn't get that way overnight...which is what a lot of these other young guys think they can do.
Tghe software isn't the problem, bad djs are...and the software makes it easier for them to butcher dancefloors, better?
:p
i know you get what i am trying to say martin. Don't tell me you haven't seen it with your own eyes in this town. A guy is playing 3 times a week, yet can't even grasp how to phrase the tracks or how to use an eq properly. Contrary to what many traktor djs believe...that really bad efx raping is not hiding any of it:p |
Amen!
I still can't believe the number of individuals that I've met in the last couple of years who call themselves 'djs' because they have learned to use Traktor and play tracks from Beatport top 100!
They are not even remotely close of knowing how to program a set and how to adapt to the crowd they are playing for.
Yet, they want to play in the big clubs and think they are amazing because 5 of their friends told them they were kick-ass djs...
I still don't use Traktor because I haven't had the time to really look into it and if I decide ot use it for my gigs, it'll be because I can use it to its full potential. |

ahah té con!
I start djing in 90's for fun with 2 bad turntables until I replaced them by 2 Technics SL 1200 and after, Torq software with Turnatables, bought 2 CDJ 800 ,still have them in case and now using Traktor cuz tired to burn cds and stop playing them after 2months. I didn't mentionned I played with 2 tape decks when I was young just for fun. lol
So, yes I can understand with the new bedroom djs or young djs who start djing , they start with softwares less then hardwares. Like producing with gears, hardwares, wires, amps VS Laptops + Ableton or Cubase.
Everybody wants to be dj because of their music passion or need attention with girls! lol :) |
