my head... | yeah... i'm still hungover... then again, my night started off with a mickey of crown... straight... before getting into the club... fill in the blanks...
it's been ages since I've been to TiL... forgot how busy it could be. then again, there were loads of hot women. can't complain too much about that.
although it was rammed to the level of me starting to get pissed off, it wasn't stupid sardine can rammed. considering lineup to get in started at 1030.
not been always a fan of manzone and strong, just my taste in music, but these guys are pros. they played a well constructed warm up set, with just the right amount of tribal and tech to build up a good set. and not too much energy so that the crowd is too hyped up before the headliner. hard to hear a good, properly thought out warm up set these days and it's always a pleasure to see pros at work.
C&C started with some decent tribally stuff... then switched to generic toronto tech house. very disappointing. i didn't have high expectations, but i also didn't expect them to play the stuff you can hear at any club in toronto every weekend. felt they had more in them than to play that kind of stuff. gave them about hour and half to see if they were going to pick it up a notch, but left after 230.
was pleasure seeing some people i haven't seen in a long time |

| I have to disagree with Yohan. I thought it was a killer set. Definitely not enough tribal but still... I love the way they can transition from funky to latin style to tech so flawlessly. Great night overall. |

they played until almost 430... got very very good towards the end, although i attribute at least part of that to the thinning out of the dancefloor crowd
i don't love til, but it was a decent night |

Agreed with this. They had a few really good moments (these guys are amazing technically), but they played generic tech house for most of their set. Kudos to Manzone & Strong for ending their set off with a tribal tip, because the beginning of C&C's set was really good and tribally, but their set quickly degenerated.
This type of tech house sound reminds me of the effect Electro had on me in 2007 when it was overkilled: instant buzzkill. I actually spent 45 minutes upstairs listening to Top40 music and enjoyed it more. At least there were more girls up there. :p
I had a great time for the first couple of hours, and I was shocked at how packed (in a good way) it was before 11pm, but got bored after about 1:30.
I knew their set would get better, but at 3:15 I got tired of waiting and left.

:nervous: Sucks to hear!! I'm relieved I stayed home. I live for the day when this sound dies.. to say there is an abundance is an understatement.. |

Not a whole lot to say that hasn't already been said. I'll use the term 'bookends set' to describe their strong start/finish with a mediocre middle. Left at 4:40 to a decent dancefloor still rocking it to some serious drums. There was actually some proper music upstairs after about 3. I walked up to Max Bett - Mad Clinic (link) and it continued on from there. Graham and I were trying to wrap our heads around that it was the same dj that was playing Lady Gaga just a couple hours prior. It was definitely too busy for my liking, but I'm happy that I even made it in at all. I got in line at around 1145 and in around 1230. They were only letting people on guestlist in at this point. I tried to help the people in front of me by them being my +5 but the guestlist girl was having none of that.
That concludes my backwards review.
p.s. - can someone please book chus for a solo set? |
