Cool way to learn. If you haven't headed over to http://www.gearslutz.com/board I've learned a lot of little tricks from mastering.
The main lead sound at 1:57 I think sounds particularly thin. I know that ain't what you want to hear after 20 days of hard work. I'd try to fatten it up and make it sound warmer? Sounds all metallic, unlike the vocal sound at 3:18, which sounds more wide.
Then again the lead sound at 4 doesn't sound right to me. Again it's all metallic sounding, thin and it's all harsh in the 1.5-3K zone for that particular sound.
Then at 5:18 you had some loud cross over sound between the sections that didn't seem to fit properly. Then you bring up the volume at 5:52 of the vocals which makes it sound not good. Their it lacks reverb and warmth, unlike the vocals at 3:18 which fit into the mix well and sounded good.
The number 1 problem I have with mixing a complex trance song is some of what you are encountering. People say less is more, sometimes I think that means not boosting volumes to extremes, or EQ'ing sounds to where you are removing 50-70% of the sound that previously existed.
It's awesome to work on a track to perfection, but on the same token starting a new song allows for a clean slate to build on the successes of the previous song (what you learned in the process) and to try new variables. This song with some little fixes on very subtle details (unfortunately that is what trance, mixing is all about), could be commercially viable.
Hopefully some more people bounce in and give actual feedback about technical details instead just "it sounds good." Of course it sounds good, it's a remix of one of the best trance songs known to man. He would of had to butcher the living crap out of it for it to not sound good. |

nice work!
I personally really like the first few mins the best, and would like to hear a more dubby version without the main theme (but maybe that's just me!) :happy2: |

To be fair, having listened to some of your stuff I really don't think you're in a position to question someone else's mastering. |
