My question is the following...
Is really fundamental a decent sound card to produce? And if your answer is yes, would you explain me exactly why? In what way a better sound card can improve the sound quality of the audio I'm dealing with?
After that, please indicate me a good sound card that costs less than 400

definitely it depends on the card you actually own, some people experiment wide sound changes after replacing their sound card but it's a minor thing if your card is decent enough. I'd improve your monitors first in any case as i see they are more important. A better soundcard means that what you hear is closer to what really is, but a good soundcard without good monitors is a waste of money, with a better soundcard if you have a correlative processor and RAM you can work at higher bitrates and sampling frequencies, if you ask me there isn't much difference.
So in conclussion sound card is a part of the equipment, you have to improve all at a similar level, crap soundcard with outstanding monitors = fail too |

a good soundcard does NOT affect your rendering (wav) but it will allow you to hear better what is going on, and together with good monitors it might help you MAKE better mixes. as simple as that. its like painting with glasses, it wont help if you suck to begin with. |
