Try Homeaway, Cyber rentals. Be careful doing transactions on Craig-list !!!:eyes:
a couple of years ago my friend booked a condo from there and it ended up being a scam.
Flamingo is sweet but I heard from a friend that management is very strict as far as letting other people who are not staying there go up to the units, this is good but at the same time sucks if u wanna have people over but besides that is a very nice place. |

So it turns out that the Flamingo does have availability Ultra weekend. Their online reservation system has just been having issues.
$575/night during Ultra weekend for a 2bdrm/2bth for upto 6 people
Anybody else have recco's on hotels in the area? |

Which would be a better place to stay at for a group of 5/6 for this trip, Flamingo, Shelborne or FontainBleau?. Maybe a budget of max $400 per person.
Whats the avg cover fees to get into hotel/pool parties around SoBe? Any parties worth going to? |

fontaineblue is probably the best hotel in south beach (W hotel would be 2nd best) but its kinda on the far end of south beach and is NOT walking distance to pool parties and clubs in south beach. If your gonna stay there you will need to take cabs to everywhere. On the flipside you can get a really nice suite there for a good price if you pay upfront.
Shelborne is in the middle of everything, close to everything, and the pool parties and night time parties@ Shine are all very good and they will give you 4 vip passes per room to everything there. You'll save a TON of money drinking in your room and it makes it much easier to after party too. The Wanttickets retail booth is also there.
average pool party price i would say is 30 bucks presale. Average door price day of is $100. |

I just managed to book the 22nd to 27th (6 nights) @ The Shelborne for $1350, standard double occupancy, from bookit.com . The site was listed as one of the booking agencies from expedia and traveladvisor but when googling i found a lot of mixed reviews. But I called the Shelborne and they said they were legit and they honor bookings from them so I hope nothing bad happens. I booked it with my Visa Sig card w. travel insurance just incase though.
Here are some other prices I found for other hotels, since I just spent hours searching figured I'd share.

Reviews come from TravelAdvisor.com and are all relative. Shelborne gets slammed quite a bit bcs ppl have been pissed about the recent construction, but I'm not going down to Ultra Week to see the great decor and I think they're going to be done by then.
This is not an exhaustive list either, and the combo with flights was from NYC to MIA. It was just used as a comparison to see if it made since to book flight w. hotel. YMMV based on your dates and local obviously. |

The two basic options have already been mentioned as far as location are concerned (South Beach & Downtown). It really all depends on what you plan on doing and where you plan on going. Any of the hotels in South Beach are going to be expensive for what you get. The price is really for the location, though. If you plan on doing the pool parties and the beach a lot, then definitely just opt for a cheaper place in the area for the purposes of sleeping. You really won't spend much time in the room anyway.
We spent a couple years in the beach area before spending the last several in downtown. We'll probably never stay in SoBe again, but that's just our personal preference. We found out that we weren't huge fans of the pool parties, and we very rarely went to places like Mansion, Cameo, B.E.D., SET, LIV, and Nikki... all of which are over on the beach side. So, we eventually chose to stay downtown closer to Space, Karu, Parkwest, Ice Palace, boat parties, etc. We don't even go to Ultra anymore, but we enjoy the location, and the condos/apartments are soooo much nicer than hotel rooms. We've had a full kitchen every year in downtown, which has saved soo much money, and the living spaces have provided much needed places to relax in between all the craziness. They've also served as nice places to have people over before heading out for an all-nighter. ArminD1981 has pointed out the two sites where we usually find places, homeaway.com and cyberrentals.com.
I can't even tell you how much money I've saved since switching over to downtown. But, since you say this is your first time going, you'll probably have a little more fun staying in South Beach and exploring everything it has to offer. In any case, you'll likely have to taxi back and forth several times anyway, as everywhere in South Beach closes at 5. Sometimes you can find nicer places for a bit cheaper a little farther north. You could stay up as far as fountainebleu and still hoof it down to South Beach. It really isn't a bad stroll at all, especially if you have a group a people and a few drinks. There is a convenient bus line between the two, as well. It just wouldn't be close enough to hop in and out of during the day. |

My friend is now selling her Ultra tix and informed me this morning that she canceled our hotel reservation and said "u are on your own 4 hotel". Great! Thanks!
So anyways, everything I keep looking at downtown is booked. If anyone is in the are and needs/wants some extra money i'm looking for a place fri/sat night. Just throwin it out there.
