Ever since Usher and that track with the euodance super saw synth, pop has slowly been adopting EDM practices but the last year and 2 I suppose Gaga being one of the big names but I recently just heard Britney's new track and it was full on EDM. Granted it has that Euro Basshunter sound but still, that is the first actual dance tune i've ever heard in the last 10 years that will cart in NA. Gaga had some EDM qualities but it lacked much of the aesthetic and just sounded like pseudo dance made by a hip hop producer. I mean that Britney track even has a dub step section.
Pretty sure a giant tidal wave of EDM demand will be coming and the tidal wave will be hoefully littered with money. Money and Cubans. Dead cubans. |

| it's already happening, major major talent has moved to LA to work on the new slew of EDM/Pop hits. Switch is out here, SHM, Deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, on & on & on. EDM is about to get gimmick'd |

I think Guetta is helping push that movement. BEP approached him to make I gotta feeling with them. In return they would be in some of his tracks etc. Now they are blending genres slightly.
I remember hearing an interview with Will.i.am (did I get that right?)
he said when he came over here a couple of years back (Sydney) he was amazed that nearly all clubs were playing electro NOT rnb or hip hop - this was back in the original days of exceeder, princess superstar etc and just after all of that when stuff started to get abit dirtier.
He said that he wanted to incorporate that into some of his music. Which I think from a money making perspective is HUGE. They are trying to mix RNB/pop which is massive with cheese EDM which is massive. Very smart from a producer/artist perspective.
Now with guetta making songs from everyone from Rhianna to BEP the blend will become more apparent! |

| i wish i could find this youtube video but P. Diddy is on an interview type show (ellen or letterman etc) w/ his new crew "Dirty Money" going on and on how their sound is based on the DC10 experience. it's awful and i know he's been to DC10 before but their music couldn't' be further from that club (yes i've been to DC10) |

EDM-based pop isn't surprising - pop has pretty much always been influenced by underground genres a year or two after a few tracks get some mainstream success, then everybody jumps on the bandwagon. Rinse and repeat.
Now, if/when country & western artists start adding dubstep influnces, that's when things will be downright scary. |

Exactly! Nowadays, I mostly spin at mainstream clubs because it pays me VERY good. So when the crossover began back in the mashups era, it was like a blessing and a curse at the same time. I love my underground and I wish EDM would've stayed like that but I'm also glad that it opened up many more people to this music. It's finally getting to the point where my sets can be more underground and I won't clear the dance floor. Just 2 years ago, I would've not even dreamed of dropping some Marcel Woods or Masters At Work at a mainstream crowd.
Like all things, something wrong was bound to happen sooner or later. Unfortunately, to me it's the rise of CHEESE! The way I see it, a lot songs are getting butchered by commercial DJ's making crossover mashups with them. Some just sound horrible. Some of these DJ's just take the most random vocals and overlap them to house songs. Shoot, Tiesto's dog farts sound better! haha
And last, the commercialization of house music is contaminating the underground scene. Megaclubs are now booking more and more commercial acts because, lets face it, that's where the $$$$ is! Even big time festivals like Monster Massive are now placing world class DJ's like John Digweed on smaller stages. To top it off, the once all pure EDM festivals, are now targeting a much bigger audience. At Together As One, I heard everything from Moombahton (Reggaeton with Dirty Dutch synths) to radio hits to A Milli to Dr Dre all in the same festival. The thing about it is that people react insanely to it.
The "pure" EDM scene we all once knew has evolved to a more grand status. Unfortunately, for all of us underground lovers, our scene has now shrunk. |

Like Anthony said, the pop world, at least here in LA, already is full of EDM influence.
Just check these HUGE tracks out.
• Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me
This song is a MONSTER at all my gigs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgM3r8xKfGE&ob=av3el
• Rihanna - Only Girl In The World
HUGE Trance synths on it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa14VNsdSYM
• Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me
As if Dubstep wasn't getting big already, Britney is sure shinning a lot of light to it. If you listen to the entire song, it goes into a Dubstep breakdown at 2:15.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJSm_QMO6zA&ob=av2nm
• Pitbull - Bon Bon
Pitbull is NOTORIOUS for buying out catchy EDM songs and bringing them into the mainstream. Bon Bon is no exception.

• David Guetta Feat. Rihanna - Who's That Chick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOdmf4N5aPE
• Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness (Slinks Remix)
Dubstep at it's fullest.

Rihanna - S&M
Woop Woop! The minimal percussions combined with a phat kick and snare just sounds so simple, yet so damn good! |

I agree! I'm making pretty darn good money as it is right now. I know I could make tons more if I hustled like I used to, but there's just something that I'm not feeling. I'm not willing to completely go mainstream. I love it where I'm at. No other venue gives me the complete freedom I have there. Total control is awesomeness!!! I play the EDM and the other DJ's play the commercial hits. Another thing too, I've been there for 5 years and I'm the Music Director / Talent Booker for Saturday Nights. It's kinda hard to let go when you pretty much built a club from the ground up from very few people to a constant sell out crowd and always went against all the rules.
As far as production goes, I'd like to go more the Nosaj Thing route. I love that experimental format. It's awesome! |

Quite aware but what separates the new Britney track is that it is EDM and the production is rather un pop like. It sounds like pop EDM and not pop with some dance sounds which all those others are in opinion. I mean she has the hardstyle/Euro fart bass. |
