Hooking up MIDI device problem

hi im having trouble hooking up my Yamaha DJX-2 keyboard to my laptop to use in ableton live 8. I bought this cable:

when i try to select the device on ableton its called VIEWCON. im guessing this is the keyboard driver. when i try to play sounds nothing comes out the speakers.
Anyone know whether im using the correct hardware/settings? any help is much appreciated |

| you need to go into ableton preferences and where it says Viewcon in the midi settings make sure the "Track" button is "On" and Sync if you want to use Midi sync. Then in ableton on a midi clip set the output of the channel to viewcon (you might need to use a sub menu, just try them until it works :) |

| tried those but still getting nothing. do i have to press something on the keyboard? how do i know if the keyboard is working in ableton? |

wait what do you want to do... ? do you want to draw midi in the piano roll and send it to the synth or what?
just to cover all basis here, you know that audio doesn't go thru midi right? |

| uhm i think you want a sampler/workstation. those hardly exists anymore. |

does not compute. you want to say, load a VST in ableton but use that keyboard to play the notes? |
