So I gotta say, the first Hercules & Love Affair album was by far one of my favorite albums ever. An absolute slap in the face of thick disco bass and just all around party jams. It played non-stop during the Summer and really didn't go way until the following year. That said...I'm still on the fence with this album. I'm all about the retro house thing right now, but I feel like they should have given us more with the obvious talent they have. The biggest glaring omission is Antony from Antony & The Johnsons' voice. I don't think it would fit this album very well, but I still miss it. Step Up, I Can't Wait, and My House are the obvious club cuts (My House EP is coming soon with a remix from Leo Zero and Hercules & Love Affair themselves).

this is one example of awesome artist(s) with a terrible name.

Yeah not a totally memorable album for me. I love love love 'My House' (and not just because of the video) but not a whole lot of other standouts IMO. 'Blind' just set the bar too high I guess.
Edit: Visitor is pretty excellent, would sufficiently rock a club

first album was much better, i totally agree. some of the tracks on blue songs are good, though, and i get the feeling that this is an album that will grow on me over the next month or so.
there's certainly no 'blind' on blue songs, that's for sure

What made Blind, and the first album in general, so great was Antony's unconventional voice. If you've ever heard his stuff with Antony & The Johnsons you'd hear his range and how talented he really is. He brought that talent to some amazing productions and the entire album just soared. The new guy, who's name I forget, isn't a bad singer necessarily...but it's certainly missing that hit element that made the last album stand out.
That said, I'm definitely liking the album. The more I listen the more I appreciate it.
Resident Advisor has a pretty nice write up. Puts the album in a nice perspective.

Classics mix from Hercules' frontman, Andy Butler:
Pretty sick stuff. Looking forward to finally hearing the full album.

I emailed Andy asking if he'd do my podcast and got no response, 2 days later they went on tour. I thought he was just being a dick, but I guess since he had time to churn one out for fact...he was just being a dick :o
