2. I think it was mostly the remote control scene that did it for me. And the dark humor that is so completely out of place sometimes that I was like "wtf is wrong with this movie?" all the time. Maybe it fits better in 2, meh. Btw original, not US version.

yes. when that happened i literally shouted, "OH NO ING WAY" really loud. my heart sank so far. that was a GREAT scene.

It's been on my vague list of things to do for a while now. I went through a spell about eight years ago of being really into 70s/80s horror. It was around that time that the UK film council started unbanning all those old video nasties, but the butchery they enacted on Cannibal Holocaust was comparable to what happens in the film, so I lost interest for a while. I might watch it tonight - cheers for the link, Danny.

I spit on your grave

it just got remade but haven't seen the new version but i assume it will be even more gory and disturbing than the original.

//It's really not worth watching though, if you ask me. I didn't find that the extreme violence in the film elevated to anything whatsoever, save for the hackneyed 'violence in entertainment' schtick - as though it's some sort of commentary by merely existing. It's basically just flimsy footage of naked brown people dissecting various humans and animals. It's 1-dimensional shock value.

I watched it a few weeks ago. The thing that got me was that these were people acting.
Obviously the dialogue isn't all that great but I was taken back by several scenes and just thought wow. You don't see actors having to do that often.
