Anyone using this for djing. I'm using 3 pads with touchosc for production and I have to say this is the coolest thing on the planet. I've seen tons of templates for djs to use with their hardware. Alot less nerdy than a computer.
darouge11
how is it LESS nerdy.... you have an oversized iphone/itouch for djing, it cant get more or less nerdy
Mad for Brad
because it is more hands on and the touchsoc interface looks in cool. And you can make your own templates. YOu can technically make 2 ipads the controller for the 2 deck. HAve a giant vinyl looking controlller and then something like this for the mixer /software controller.

Make a flight case with all 3 inside. I don't know but I would totally be doing this if I still djed.

just some random pick on google.

most def the future of djeing, or liveacts. though some will stay with vinyl even in the grave and i respect that. for a dj its really just about the music. the gear comes second.

It's pretty cool, and I can see it catching on, but I like having knobs and buttons to play with. I don't trust touch all that much (yet).

Plus a decent entry-level midi controller costs less than an iPad and "feels" better. Of course you can't use it to surf the internet...

I ordered a touchscreen add-on from ebay for a 19" I had lying around... :)

I'm on one right now.

Any good free apps worth trying out?
Mad for Brad
free no but like the apps are so damn cheap. Or you can jailbreak it and and get them all for free but it is rather a PITA.

get touchosc
and for fun get the ims20

We use the ipad's for sound system tuning. So much easier to walk around an arena with an ipad than a pc tablet.

I'm probably one of those that will stay with vinyl till I'm in my grave. But I don't think for a DJ its really just about the music because if it were, then I would just listen to it. For me, DJing is about my interaction with music and the dancefloor.

That all being said, I'm think this might actually get me into the digital music age: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVD_...layer_embedded#

ooof that looks brutal.

what is the latency like?
djkatmaus
On our ipad's, and what their doing, if there was any latency, it wasn't enough to notice. OSC is imo the best program made in a long time. I've started using it to control other avenues of live sound. Such as mixing monitors fr the artist without having to be behind the console all the time.
