I wish they would stop trying to make things so small. Americans are so ing lazy. God forbid you have to lift something that might burn some calories. Maybe its cheaper to make something thin instead of adding more ram or power. Other than that , it pretty much looks the same minus the camera which is actually a nice addition for things like skype.

And that will never happen, because that's ing stupid. Mac OS is not designed for touch input, it never WILL be and a laptop with a touch screen is completely ridiculous, all the blood would just run from your hands and you'd eventually just default back to the keyboard and mouse.

Apple has already denounced the idea because it doesn't even make any sense.

And how does the iPad 2 look anything like a toy? It's available in black and white, if you think the white one looks like a toy then get the black one? How the can this look like a toy to you but not the original iPad? The designs are extremely similar, the only difference being this one is a bit thinner and has a flat back so that it doesn't rock back and forth when you set it on the table....

The processor is twice as fast and the graphics are 9 times faster and that makes it an even more capable control surface.

Your loss.

So anyone here using an iPad to control Ableton Live? Worth looking into? Does it substantially reduce the need for using the mouse?

I'm thinking about getting an ipad (might wait for mk3 in september though) and want to know some details about if they're worth it as a control surface from someone using logic.

Actually, where did Richie go? Richie?

iPad3 is going to be released that quickly?! Damn, I'm on the verge of buying an iPad2, since our kid has essentially commandeered my wife's iPad1, but I may have to force myself to hold off.

The only serious music work I've used it for (aside from posting on TA, of course) is the Omni TR app for controlling Omnisphere - works perfectly!

Apple's products cycle yearly, so no, it won't come out in September. I think he's talking about a different product.

The next iPad is a long ways away man. :)

Pretty sure this is a marketing tactic. They'll denounce it sure (to deter others from running with the idea) but meanwhile, there is no way they are NOT developing a multi-touch/stylus version of mac OSX. That's simply the direction things are heading, so regardless of what they say, it's gonna happen. There WILL be some kind of multi-touch interface with an adapted version of OSX within the next couple years. It'll probably end up something like this

Apple will NEVER do a stylus touch input device, and I still think you're completely wrong.

And that mockup you posted is the ugliest UI disaster I have ever seen. Apple wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.

You're right they might just bypass that completely and develop something that plugs directly into your brain ;)

Not true, cycles are only one factor, it has way more to do with sales - they were originally going to bring out the ipad2 at the 2011 Apple september media event but they brought the launch way forward due to competition from other manufactures in the market place and a slowing in sales of th original ipad.

There were indications that the ipad3 was then going to be released in the september media event as Apple wants to stay ahead of the curve but it looks like the components will not be ready from suppliers early enough, and the sales figures for the ipad2 are far beyond even what apple thought so now they don't want to kill that off by updating too soon.

If sales for the ipad2 drop anytime before the third Q of 2011 then the ipad3 will be launched asap, otherwise it's a march 2012 launch.
