Bad move on Districts part, they should focus more on getting Sasha, Digweed, Zabiela, Desyn, or some underground talent like Matin Garcia....
Don't get me wrong the place will be packed and im sure money will be made. but at what cost....? |
Maybe there's just no more underground market in New York. The people that like this music live no where near the heart of midtown anymore. Even the students that live in New York who used to go underground are going to Meatpacking or Lower East Side instead. That's the simple answer to why Love, Avalon, Crobar couldn't stay open. The cops played a small part in it, but their profit margins weren't nearly enough to pay the cops off, or give reason for them to keep them open.
From my own experience, I've played a good amount of half-empty parties over the past 4 years in Manhattan. My last 4 gigs in NY have been in dark warehouses in Brooklyn, and they've all reached 80-100% capacity with little promotion, low costs, being in the ghetto, snow, venue changes. I'm starting to think that, musically, staying in New York means eventual death. Brooklyn (obviously), Jersey City, Newark, etc., are going to soon be the only place to see good talent. |

| FWIW, I've beent there probably half a dozen times for blkmarket, Basic NYC & Bradley Rose parties and have had or have seen no problems, hassles or attitudes from anyone. I can't say the same for almost any other venue that I've been to. I'm not saying the place is perfect, and the lineups have gone done a bit since the 1/1/11 breakup, but I don't think the average patron will encounter any , as apposed to a W. Chelsea or Meat Packing club where I pretty much expect someone on the staff to give me a hard time about something for no reason. Of course with nightlife in our fine city, YMMV. |

| I heard through a friend that the people in charge of booking the talent @ D36 had a falling out with management, hence the seemingly out of place JP night. |

My desire to check this venue out have significantly diminished due to the string of incidents since its opening. |
As in questionable bookings or just stuff going down at the club? |

youre not missing much at all. honestly.
And JP really? why is no one seeming to get the fact that this place can only hold like 200 people comfortably? even that is pushing it!
At DD there were maybe 80 people...and it made the dancefloor look full....
plus can i mention again...?
EXIT SIGNS! all you do is stand there and stare at the exit signs!
haha on that note. i hate JP and i dont love this venue. but my friends are dragging me to this
im ashamed |

As in both really.... nothing has been sooo interesting to the point where I say "OMG I can't miss that!" and the reviews from friends are quite discouraging.
In addition the announcements are a bit late for my taste. I like to make my plans and schedule well in advanced, and I often know what parties I am attending or providing media coverage for months in advanced. If I have already committed to attend something, and something else pops up I guess I'm just out of luck. |

im not sure what parties your friends may have attended, but a bunch of my nyc friends who have been at his last 3 parties said hes been sooo on point lately, especially this past saturday at his bday. i was only at classics in sept so i can only comment on that and it was out of control, but my friends always give honest reviews of him and if he sucks theyll say it. but to each their own.
he is also no longer at pacha. he announced that this past saturday at his bday party that he has not renewed his contract and is now venturing out to have the freedom to play any nyc venues he chooses.
i guess time will tell. |
Agreed - I'm not a major house fan but went to JP Classics in Sept as well (my first JP event) and I have to say....after 4am...the music was amazing. How all those JP followers will fit into D36 is another question... |
