Viability of Live Lite 8?

So I'm starting to dabble in production, and recently acquired Live Lite 8 from a friend. I plan on upgrading to Full somewhere down the line, but is Lite viable for learning the basics of the program and production? Or should I not waste my time and upgrade at my earliest convenience? I'd really like to be able to create/edit clips then use them with my friend who has the full version of Ableton in his studio for the time being.

I don't have any experience with that program, but if you dabble with it for a while and start finding your ability constrained by the software's limitations, I'd consider it proof of concept that it's worthwhile to look at some additional investment. Do yourself a favor and try to bring at least one song to completion before making your decision. Start small and simple with something that, while perhaps beneath your ability, proves you can finish something you start.
