Hey guys not able to play wav on windows media, tried to DL winamp assuming that would work, but nope. tried converting to mp3, but the software i found would only allow 60% of the file and rather than keep guessing I figured someone on here would have the solution.
Thanks in advance!

id10t error?

What operating system? What version of media player? What do you see in the file's properties? Seems like either corrupt or truncated.

windows 7.
corrupt is a possibility. though im sure there could be a codec out there to help.

downloaded divx a few weeks ago and it would not allow my media player to play rar files anymore. uninstalled divx and media player was fine for rar files again.

Try downloading SMPlayer. It uses mplayer, which is a command line app. SMPlayer bundleds mplayer and puts a great GUI over it that's simple but with lots of options. It's free, and mplayer is open source.

It uses a seperate engine from both WMP and Winamp.

It also is much better at playing corrupted files.

And it'll also play most video or audio file types you throw at it.

If it STILL doesn't work beyond this, I dunno. Def something wrong with the file. You can also check the mplayer and splayer log if it doesn't play and see what error it spits out in the command-line side.

Another thing I recommend is trying out ffdshow. Basically, you have it take over (you can tell it on which scale) already installed codecs in players like Windows Media Player and it's packages are much easier on your system. Doesn't use nearly the CPU. It's free, too.

That'll work too most of the time. If it were 2+ years ago, I'd say VLCPlayer first because SMPlayer has a couple major bugs and playback issues that have since been resolved. Now I just prefer smplayer because it has more playback options and I've had issues playing files in VLC that play OK in SMPlayer. VLC is able to do things MPlayer can't, but I don't see Bigperf needing them.

A KEY playback option in SMPlayer is that if the audio is slightly off from the video, you can easily adjust the audio by 100ms in each direction by just hitting + or - on your numpad.

SMplayer's subtitle support is way better.

Those two right there are the big things for me. :p

VLCPlayer does have some cool things you can do to touch up the video. coloring.

KMPlayer is also another good one. Think it's another MPlayer GUI.

Anyhow, can't really go wrong with any of them.

Is it uncompressed wav audio?
Right click->Properites->Details->Audio section
or check its properites with MediaInfo

Mediaplayer plays rar (compressed) files?
