Mauro used to be a trance DJ.

Even those songs weren't straight up "trance", compared to Fairy Corsten style trance (for example).

But anyway, I started getting into Picotto in 2001-ish, when he was playing hard techno. These days though, I can't handle techno that hard. Anything over 126-128 BPM is too much for me.

He plays minimal these days, right?

I like minimal, but I wish I could see an old-school Picotto set since I've never seen him live before. Oh well, I'll probably go to this either way :)

He doesn't play mnml, but definitely not as hard as he used to (thank god). His style is tech-housey, you could groove to it. I like it much better.

I so had plans to go but services for my mom's funeral are that day and I will be a wreck by the end of the night. :( I was totally looking forward to it.

I'm so sorry about this Silvia. I love reading all your posts on facebook... and I'm glad you have a lot of supportive friends. :) xo

Mauro, at least at one time, coudl play either Trance or Hard Techno and just straight up blow you away. In his prime, he was playing both or a very solid mix of it.

Mauro could have been a much, much bigger DJ if his price was just set right. He was VERY (incredbily) expensive to book over here given he didn't really have a fanbase in the US. Or a proven one at least. Promoters/Clubs just weren't willing to risk paying so much when he'd never really played in that city (or at a club event, at least) before. And there was never a huge uproar for him (unlike Prydz, who everyone had been begging for) to given a in indication how "big" of a booking he would be. By the time he started playing out here (which still isn't often), he was past his prime.

I remember when people were making HARDER signs for him on here. Because he wasn't playing hard anymore!

Time to pull out Mauro Picotto @ Sensaaaaaatioooooooooooooooooonnn

Tippsyayyyyyyyyyyyy.......

haha, Ferry is my favorite mainstream DJ, watch it! :P

At least Ferry had a period where he played pretty hard stuff ("Rock Your Body Rock", "Punk", etc.)

Yeah, I guess Picotto was more techno with trance elements, rather than simply trance. Of course back then DJs mixed more genres in their sets than just trance and house. I miss those times.

What's the dress code like at Vanguard? I've never been before. Also, is ratio enforcement in effect?

I'm pretty sure there's no ratio rule, it isn't Vegas :haha:
