I first got into dance music when I was 14 hearing PVD remix of binary finary 1998 from my brother. From there I became obsessed with trance. From around 2002 to 2004, my weekly clubbing at Passion and Godskitchen revolved around trance and I loved every minute of it.
Years roll by and I gradually start to enjoy other types of dance music as well as trance. More time passes and I listen to trance less and less.
Now I never listen to trance enjoying other styles much more - house, techno, prog and variants of.
At this point you're thinking, "yeah, we're all in the same boat"
BUT!!!! Every once in a while me and my mates stick on some trance classics for old times sake and I realise that I have never loved or been as passionate about any type of music as I was in those early trance years. I listen to old favourites and the feeling I get pisses all over the feeling I get now with tunes I apparently really enjoy. Back in the day, I lived and breathed trance. I stuck it on and would get a rush every time - in my car, at home, where ever. I never get that same buzz now even though I still consider myself passionate about dance music.
I tell myself I have moved on. But what have I done? Settled for music I find inferior and have to accept that I will never be as passionate and enthusisatic about music as I was when trance was in its peak?

Yes.
Many people feel the same now.
Over saturation, over commercialization and greedy manufacturers / promoters have ensured that quantity in quick doses far surpasses the importance of quality and longevity.
Plus you are getting older. Priorities change. |

| Can't say I'm like that. In fact, I'm almost the opposite - I think a lot of the music I was first passionate about it is quite e now, and I sometimes worry that I'll grow out of what I love now in a few years and be left with an ever-larger record collection of tracks I'll no longer play. But because I've got much better at finding music I genuinely like and the Internet has put everything at my fingertips I'm no longer forced to choose from what's in the local shops. I think when I was younger I had to settle-for-less a lot more, and now I can really cultivate my own tastes. So hopefully the music I love now will remain personal to me for a lot longer. |

Well, if you're one in a million, approximately 6,775 people are exactly like you.
Now to actually answer your question, I'm pretty much the same way but I never really got that passionate about trance, I just liked it and then eventually progressed onto house and all it's subgenres and techno. |

I'm kind of the same way.
I was less into the supersaw anthem thing, more into the "big room prog" (Tilt, Breeder, etc.) being played around the same time. But yeah, the feeling I get from that stuff still seems unbeatable even now. Like you, once in a while I put on some of those tracks and the old "rush" comes right back.

Nostalgia is a ing bitch. I think this kind of attitude has nothing to do with quality, and an awful lot to do with you getting older and more "experienced" with the music. So no matter how good or bad was the type of music that initially got you into EDM, it'll always hold a special place in your heart whether you moved to something "better" in between or not. Especially if the genre in question was at its peak at the time. Life is numbing us down whether we like it or not, and that's not just the case with the music.
I was feeling the same way earlier today when I saw video for The Prodigy's Breathe, which was probably THE gateway song for me. I remember myself first time hearing it - I was literally humming the tune for the rest of the week, telling everyone what bomb of the track I encountered, taping the whole album from the older friend and dealing it among the classmates, saving for the CD, listening to it every day... And then the whole thing started all over again when I found out that they have released even better music in the past. Now I believe that the music I listen to these days is much better, yet not one album in last ten or so years made me as enthusiastic or excited as I was back in those days. |

this is a very interesting phenomenon that I have experienced a few times after randomly listening to old trance favorites. But I don't think I have to worry, just last week I was drunk at a Slow Hands / No Regular Play party and had PLUR all over my face. I'm just as passionate about dance music, just much more jaded. |

I still like the tracks I liked in the early 90's, well not all of them, but in general I do. Even the tracks I liked in the late 80's although those were mostly pop.
I started to like other genres to, but Trance stayed my favorite one and that for like 17 years now. |

| pretty much the same frame of mind although its trance that i listened to after dance and its d&b that stole me away from trance for a few months, but nothing compares to the awesome chillout effect of trance |
