Now, there is something special about this song. It's such a simple melody that just loops again and again and again, but still there is something in it that makes it interesting. The intro of this melody is nothing special. What I am talking about is the "main tune" that kicks in at 3:10. I feel that its something with the rhythm. It's not wrong, but its kind of strange, but in a good way. I cant really explain why, and I was hoping that someone here thats better than me at this could help me figure it out. I dont really know that much about music, but I will explain this the best way I can. It's like some notes play at times that you wouldn't "expect" them to.
Then at 3:38 when the drums kick in, its kind of like the drums and the tune each are "doing their own thing", but still come together in some kind of harmony.
Whats the secret of this song? Is this some kind of known "phenomena" or technique used in trance songs? Does it have a name?
Anyone who knows?

I like this song because the artist mentioned (on here) that the track name comes from one of my favorite video game series :D
The song itself is pretty good even if I don't listen to much in the way of epic uplifting trance anymore. |

| It's got a catchy hook but the melody, consisting of a rhythmically simple, tonically syncopated, diadic interval ping, played through a descending series of major chords, never really does anything after its answer in the first algorithmic riddle, where it's introduced. There's variation but it's simply to move it up to the next octave or emphasize peak-notes through 32nd note repetition, rather than introduce subtle chord coloration, like augmentation, to the final thematic algorithm. In spite of this, I still think it's a cool tune and there's plenty of other stuff going on in the back-ground to keep it interesting. |

:D Xie xie - You speak better English than I do, Chinese, and better still than a good deal of Americans.
I tried to stay within the realm of music theory where most of the big words are concerned. The root word, tonic, for instance, has a much different meaning when not pertaining to musical scales. I should also add that my knowledge of music theory hardly constitutes genius but there are people who post on this board who have such bonafides. |
