Nero? Dubstep? Advice?

Are you using vengeance drums for a dubstep track? the kick is pretty crappy for the style. the perc is pretty awful. the rhythm selection isn't that bad, just the samples and the pitch. the vanguard part in the mix just makes it seem sloppy. the kick has no sub, and can't really feel any sub. overall this is pretty lack luster.

I'm using factory Reason set. I swore off samples in 99% of my productions. If its not 100% original then its not mine. That's why I'm using Reason is because it emulates hardware and I love that idea. However, I'm having a bit of difficulty getting Reason not to sound like Reason. Even though I love its functionality the sounds that are coming out of it still sound like there from early EDM Days and I want new stuff, and I know because of the synths capabilities that making the sounds is possible it just takes something and I haven't quite figured it out yet. I considered buying combinators or refills but then that wouldn't be mine either so, I'm piecing it all together.

Well, might be time to switch to Ableton. I had the same problem with Reason. These days, there's really no sense in using Reason by itself when there are such amazing options available. Even producers who create wonderful productions using Reason always Re-wire. Your wobble was a little too wide, otherwise it would have been the quintessential wobble, since so many people use the subtracter for that purpose.

I would say, start incorporating more professionalism into your productions by getting -better- at producing, and either switch away from Reason or start combining it with other DAWs, Reason alone just does not cut it.

edit: On it being 100% yours, that is idealistic. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using Vengeance, but even the things you're doing aren't 100% your own. Are you synthesizing your own kicks, snares percussion? The emulation of hardware has nothing to do with originality in the sense that it is still a soft synth, and even still doesn't really contribute to the to the impossible pipe dream of everything being 100% yours. If you swear off samples, you virtually swear off being a decent producer. Production is about finding balance. Some of the greatest records in history were created, magnificently and creatively, using samples. So your dogmatic approach to music production will only prove a hindrance.

Ableton.. I'm not sure, I mean, there's some solid stuff that comes out of Reason, and (don't laugh) but as I watch youtube videos on the things its capable of they provide the assurance that it can do what I want it to. I really think its just a matter of the cable-ing and the layering of multiple synths to create what it is I'm looking for. I also think that because of my understanding and familiarity with the program that it might just be that I need some more knowledge on some certain things. But like I said, any sound from Rusko to DeadMau5 can be played using the synths in Reason it just seems like unless I know exactly what modulations, filters, pw, and such to turn it to "exactly" then its like throwing darts blindfolded and I get the cat dancing on the keyboard.
