What do you mean by, not easy? To make releasable tracks with just software?

I was picking up on the thread title > 'has it become that simple'.

What I mean is, yes it's simple in terms of set up and pro results can be obtained without hardware synths and outboard units, but actualy making releasable and saleable tracks is still a very difficult skill to master AND imo takes a few years of total dedication.

Ohhh Yeah very true mate. Some pick it up faster than others but yep I agree.

most doesnt "pick it up" at all.

Indeed very true. Like anything its all down to hard work.

for something like djing you need some agility in your movements and a mixer/midi controller is a must, for producing only the daw is mandatory, next step is probably the midi keyboard and the rest of the things can make the things a bit easier but for me now looks like posh stuff.

About releases took me 1 year, i had some music background but has definitely become easier, even making a top 1 beatport is easier than before, they're usually .

It took you one year from the start of producing to get a release?
Senator Clay Davis
midi controller isnt at all necesarry for djeing nor producing imo.

yes, the basics aren't hard, most people will find problems to make a good melody, chord progression or to get a decent mixdown i have reached soon this average level mostly due to the fact of musical education i was a piano pro when i was a child i don't remember why i gave up but i remember taking 2-3 hours of lessons daily when i was 8. Quite exhausting at that age.

Just watch tutorials and mess a lot with your daw. I find a lot easier making House or Techno than uplifting trance for example, i don't have a proper 32 bar uplifting trance track signed yet, the track i submitted to the m4b contest had some potential mainly because of the outstanding melody , probably i'd try to finish it in the near future but definitely the simple & catchy stuff is selling better and is a lot easier.

And you can't dj with just a touchpad in the laptop... that's ridiculous a midi controller is a must if you want to go digital

you could use cdjs :)

you'd still need a mixer, i can imagine a set with just cdjs but be serious: You can move 2-3 knobs at once quickly and smoothly with a mixer while you can only move one knob in a pretty inaccurate way with software, this counts.

What about something like the Traktor Kontrol stuff, like the S4 or the Pioneer DDJ T1?

I'm a good producer but it's hard to market my music without a live aspect, so I need to start DJing... I was thinking about picking one of those two up, but is that adequate?
