We're heading for a little romantic getaway on Sun to San Francisco and I wanted to know if any of you have some suggestions? Here's what I've already been told to do:
-Alcatraz
-Cable cars
-Fisherman’s Warf
-Pier 39
Any feedback on these attractions or any suggestions for other things to do? We would love to do cool, off the beaten path type things usually. Stuff that most tourists wouldn't normally do.
Also, any really nice restaurants you can recommend? (I know San Fran has tons!)
Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there
For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair
All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

If you really want to see Alcatrez, get some good pics and avoid the rush, my recommendation would be to get on the FIRST boat across. It's a self guided tour and they bring boat loads of people over there. So if you get there early, there's fewer people. Also, if the tour says to go to cell block A first, I would sneak over to the kitchen first and get some good pictures before people got there. Then I went back to cell block A to continue my tour. If you do this in the middle of the day it's more difficult b/c there are multiple tours going on at once.
Rent bikes and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to this little village and have lunch. I forget what the place is called, but someone else on here may know. Or when you go to rent the bikes, they'll know.
Check out the Golden Gate Park and the De Young Museum (in the park). If you don't want to go into the Museum, you can still go up to the look out for a spectacular view of the city.
The Academy of Science is pretty awesome too, and is right across from the De Young Museum.
Lastly, if you want to meet up with an old school TOTA, our friend Ilyia (aka Durafei) works at Google and now lives in San Fran.

I would definitely recommend www.yelp.com to help you with this.

I think we're actually going to do the night tour for Alcatraz, which only leaves with one group so it's less people (4pm to 7pm).
Biking across Golden Gate Bridge and the Academy of Science sound like great idea! Thanks!

Yeah, we were told to go to Union Square (near our hotel anyway) and the cable car it down to Fisherman's Warf.
Thanks!

I highly recommend renting bikes. Biking the Golden Gate was spectacular and I think the village Lisa is talking about is near Sausalito. Beautiful place.
So many great places to eat in the Fisherman’s Warf area. Pier 39 was great... something you should see with your own eyes. You might also wanna checkout The Castro neighborhood. Very colorful and rich history.
Keep an eye out for bums that are overly aggressive. Especially when walking around not-so-great parts of town at night. You'd be surprised at how many of them there are. I certainly was. :)

Sausalito! That's it.
Down at Pier 39 too, there's a little warehouse looking building that has a free antiques museum. You can play all sorts of antique arcade games. It's across from the big bread factory - which I also recommend you stroll through. They make all kinds of animals out of bread. lol
Oh, and another thing...it may sound kind of boring, but I would highly recommend checking out City Hall. I guarantee you won't see anything like it. The inside is absolutely stunning, with a cathedral like ceiling, grand staircase and beautiful carvings. You can take tours (they're either free, or a small donation), or you can just go in and walk around for a few minutes. I'll add you to FB so you can see some of my pictures if you'd like.
