Something really really annoyed me recently. My friends have slowly left trance and gone into techno and minimal. That doesn't bother me as they can like what they want but someone said trance is dead and I should come out of my box.
Tech/minimal is truely not for me as I honestly believe trance is a lot more melodic with a more energy punch. Everytime I listen to techno I get bored and look around the club to see everyone f*cked on Ket (how is that enjoying the music?).
I was wondering everyones thoughts on it....surely the facts speak for themselves - top voted DJ's are always trance names.
P.S. I am new to TA and I love it. Joined up today after recently hitting Energy | The Network - loved the full post of all the sets on here. :D

Trance will not die Rob - it's been part of the dance scene for over 20 years, tastes though shift in popularity. Popularity doesn't matter because Trance already has a large fanbase - it's not like people will stop producing it.
Secondly, I don't think it's so healthy to get so attached to one thing. Many Techno DJs played Trance records back in the day, like DJ Dag and Gayle San etc....Heck they even played House.
Labels don't matter and DJs shouldn't be pigeonholed in my opinion.
Vernon, thanks for replying I'll get back to you.

yeah i guess it sounded quite rant like lol! wasn't meant to be and i do like aspects of all music. just my preferred preference is trance.
plus i do enjoy genre-crossing because i think trance is more and more diverse now with the slower BPM tracks.
my frustrations come from there being little trance following from my city/country. i just wish there were more trance nights in manchester. i feel that techno rules the city. i can't complain though since i'm not too far from the likes of amsterdam...

Melodic =/= better. Comparing melodic trance to techno is like comparing apples and oranges; some people like a more moody, 'emotional,' techier sound, some people don't.

1. Not necessarily true, it depends where you look.
2. So? Crappy pop music is topping the Billboard charts all the time, but that certainly doesn't make it better.
3. A lot of the people (if not most) on here agree that Mixmag's top 100 and the like are crap.
All that said, I'm not saying you shouldn't like trance more than techno. I, for one, am not a huge fan of the Detroit sound (most of the time). Just realize that not everyone feels the same way.
