| alright so im taking a big leap here from headphones, (i use headphones because i know the accoustics of my room sucks) im picking up the krk 5's they are the limited edition red versions, and for $150 thats to good to pass up. so ive done a bit of research and ive come to find that they are pretty good speakers specially for a newb like me, but im just wondering how many of you have actually bought used speakers? and whats usually the shelf life of speakers anyways? obviously i am going to test them out before i buy em..but i am just curious to know really...and can you guys recommend me any songs that would be good for testin out the dynamics? |

Most of the people here are s and consider KRK RP5's low-end (or anything else below 500EUR). Nice to meet you, my name is .
Seriously. If the speakers have been treated well by the previous owner and you treat them well they can serve you until the day you die. They can take a beating now and then if only for a short while.
Good thing, they've already been burned in. This means they should be fairly accurate from the start. New speakers need some time to get warmed up, so to speak. Be warned that the rp5's don't really have any low end so you'd need to learn how to work with them on that part. That's mostly a matter of time and experience.
It's surely a step up from headphones. Don't mind all the negatives and just remember to enjoy them and have fun :).
The songs that would be best to test them with would be music you know well. This way you can check how the details come across on the system you're testing and how they hold up compared to the others you've had experience with. |

Most elitists will tell you to pay a few extra thousand bucks for "pro" speakers and that "it's worth it".
I say go for it. For $150, the KRK RP5's are pretty solid. They are a world of difference between the KRK VXT6's which are a much higher quality pair of speakers, but definitely for $150 they are much better than anything else in that range (like m-audio av-20's)
You will eventually find yourself hitting a brick wall in terms of ability with those, so I do recommend upgrading within 2 years if the means are available |

I bought used speakers, best buy I've made in years.
Worst case scenario and you hate them? Sell them on for what you paid for them. Simple.
KRK ain't bad. Using these and then stepping up in a couple of years will help you grow as a producer and also make you appreciate the characteristics other monitors offer better.
Enjoy them, I'd like to see a pic of them set up too since I've never seen the limited reds. |
